Sure, when it comes to our beloved four-legged pets, we all know that table scraps and food leftovers are off the menu. Okay, I admit that sometimes we cave when we see those hauntingly cute eyes begging for a bite. But, in most cases, it’s a big NO!
Lucy, a fifteen-year-old Tennessee dog, doesn’t have that problem, though.
Recently, her momma decided that leftovers are, in fact, on the menu and Lucy gets to eat them all! However, the real reason behind this ‘apparent mistake’ is truly heartbreaking – and doesn’t leave anyone impartial.
Leftovers Are On The Menu Due To A Heartbreaking Situation
Amber Snyder, from Tennessee, had a lifetime of happiness with her beloved dog, Lucy. The two first met in Indiana when Amber found her roaming the streets after being abandoned by her first family.
Ever since that moment, the two have been inseparable. They shared endless memories together, including exciting camping trips, hikes, and adventures. Back in the day, Lucy was also an amazing frisbee player!
Then, she entered her golden years, and one vet visit changed literally everything!
In a heartbreaking video posted on TikTok, Amber showcases Lucy having leftover pasta for lunch due to a heartbreaking reason – she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and now the two don’t need to follow the rules food-wise.
“When your dog has terminal cancer, so we don’t have rules anymore,” Amber wrote in the video.
Lucy has aggressive cancer, oral fibrosarcoma, that doesn’t leave her with many options. Sadly, it is only a matter of time before she gets to say one last goodbye to her family before she crosses the rainbow bridge.
Heartbroken by the news, Amber and her husband, Mike, decided not to waste time. Instead of mourning Lucy in advance, they decided to give their doggo girl only the best over the following months.
“My sweet Lucy Bear has fibrosarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer. We don’t really have any options. My heart is in a million pieces right now, but my priority is spoiling this baby rotten for as long as we are blessed enough to have her,” Amber wrote in an Instagram post.
Making The Most Of The Next Few Months
How do you say goodbye to a dog you love the most? And, most importantly, is there at all a proper way to do it?
Amber knew that these were the questions she couldn’t find answers to, so instead of overthinking, she decided to act! She and Mike devised a plan to shower Lucy with all of her favorite things over the next period.
Aside from her favorite food and table scraps, this sweet, loyal girl got to see the ocean one last time, too. Amber and Mike drove thirteen hours straight to Florida just so Lucy could roll in the sand and swim in the water once again.
Lucy is head over heels for the beach, and seeing her enjoy these moments doesn’t have a price tag.
Since Lucy hasn’t slowed down yet, she’ll get to do more exciting things. She still has time to feel all the love from her owners and soak up the beauty of life the way she was supposed to.
However, when the inevitable comes, Amber will make sure to hold Lucy’s paw and tell her everything will be okay.
I’m sure Lucy will continue to blossom somewhere over the rainbow bridge, just as she did with her mom.
