Saving a stray dog is always an incredibly noble deed. When you really think about it, you are changing that dog’s whole life.
Because of you, he will now get a chance to live out his life in happiness and peace, while never having to worry about things like food or shelter anymore.
Sometimes, we undervalue the importance of this because this might not seem like a big deal to us, but it means everything to a dog and that’s what is important.
When Rachel Hague worked as a volunteer, she helped a lot of dogs, but things changed when she came across this pup who really needed her help.
A Concerned Dog Who Needed Help
When Rachel was first approached by this worried dog, it was while she was trying to help another dog.
She told GeoBeats Animals: “I was on a different case helping with a dog that had been injured and trying to help trap him… and Ellie came running up to my truck.”
Rachel realized that this pup was more than okay with asking other humans for help and she looked really friendly.
The dog, now named Ellie, was really dirty, had a lot of fleas, and was a bit malnourished. Rachel knew that she needed help, so she took her to a clinic in Texas.
During the ride there, Ellie just fell asleep and had a good nap. That tells you that she felt safe and comfortable in her rescuer’s care.
She Became A Mom
After arriving at the clinic, the veterinarians carefully examined her and found something rather interesting.
Ellie was pregnant and was about to give birth. That explains why she was so concerned with finding help. The veterinarians confirmed that they would all be okay as they didn’t have any serious health problems.
She said: “My soul puppy had just passed away right before that at 19 years old. So, I had zero dogs at the time. I went from zero dogs to very quickly having Ellie and all of her babies.”
The dog family was discharged from the clinic and Rachel took them to her home in Texas. Ellie was such a good mom and spent every moment she could taking care of her puppies.
She also looked comfortable with Rachel taking care of her puppies. The level of trust she had in her was just amazing.
Ellie let her pick the puppies up and even hold them for a while. She would always keep an eye on them, like a very caring mom would.
They Are All Living Their Best Lives
Because she was so sweet, Rachel kept wondering what her story was. There was a chance she was abandoned because of her pregnancy, or maybe her owner just couldn’t take care of her anymore.
Nevertheless, she was glad to take care of such a sweet dog. As time went on, the puppies grew up and it was time for their shots.
When they received them, almost all of them were placed on an adoption list and were able to find their forever homes in no time. Rachel was so happy for all of them.
As for Ellie, it was a whole different story. She said:
“Once we had Ellie around the house, I just knew that she was mine.”
However, one puppy remained, and that was Bear. Rachel decided to keep her as well because she was always happy to spend time with her mom, more so than with other puppies.
And, it’s comforting to say that she was just so happy with Rachel, just like her mom, so it was good that she stayed with them. It’s good to see that they are all so happy now.
