Sadly, it is not a surprise to see an abandoned dog wandering the street all alone these days, especially for people whose lives revolve around saving animals.
One big-hearted rescuer from Houston, Texas was convinced of this one day when she came across a dumped dog all alone beside a busy road.
The poor furry guy was dumped by his family, and after such a long time spent in a warm home, it was a shock for him to find himself on a harsh street suddenly. He was lost, scared, and confused.
This great woman was so touched by this sight that she decided to do everything to put a smile back on his face.
Determined To Save Him

Kristin Erwin, a founder of Streetheart Project, a nonprofit rescue located in Houston, Texas, knew that it would not be an easy task to save an abandoned dog she had just seen by the side of the road.
However, she was absolutely determined to help him and decided to do everything in her power to do so. Kristin was not prepared for the rescue that day, so all she could do at that moment was softly call the dog in the hope that he would respond.

Unfortunately, as she could have guessed, this dog named Eggnog didn’t trust humans anymore after what happened to him so her attempt was futile. Eggnog was so scared and confused that he eventually took off, leaving Kristin worried about his future.
Although she was disappointed, Kristin wasn’t willing to give up so she decided to come back the next day, but this time, with a more strategic plan.
@streetheartstx We spotted this little guy running along a busy road. He looked lost and confused. I tried to get him to trust me but he wasn’t interested. I had to give up and leave but then I saw him again two days later. This time I had food packed with me. Once we got him home, he was still trembling but he let me handle him and pet him. We will give him time to see we’re good people 💜 Streetheartsproject.com

When she arrived at that place the next day, Kristin brought a trap and a few pieces of delicious food that she believed Eggnog would not be able to resist. She put the food inside a trap and left it open in the hope that it would lure the dog in.
After some time, it finally happened — hungry Eggnog slowly approached the opened trap, and when he saw that no one was around, he went in and started eating.
The trap door closed and Kristin was finally able to bring the pooch to safety.
No Longer A Scared Dog

Kristin was over the moon because she succeeded in rescuing Eggnog from the street, but as soon as they came home, she knew that there were still challenges ahead of them.
Eggnog did not exhibit aggressive behavior when she brought him to his new foster home, but his fearful demeanor definitely stood out as his body trembled with fear.
Being an experienced rescuer, Kristin immediately knew what to do — she had to be patient with him and give him all the time he needed to start trusting again.
After a few difficult days, it finally happened — Eggnog miraculously started warming up to his savior. He realized that he was in a safe place and that this stranger was not there to harm him as some others did, but to help him heal his soul.

After a few more days, Eggnog’s smile finally returned to his face and he was a brand-new dog, following his new favorite person everywhere, smiling, and vigorously wagging his tail.
Although his future is still uncertain, Eggnog is definitely on the right path — the path toward a future surrounded by warm people like Kristin, and not those cold individuals who once broke his heart and left him on a harsh street.
