Tears Flood The ICU As Man Reunites With Dog After Sustaining Life-Altering Injuries In Car Crash

They say a dog is a man’s best friend. Yet you never fully believe it until you feel the meaning of it yourself.

For Matthew Weatherman, having his dog, Bravery, in his life meant everything. But after this Oregon man sustained life-altering injuries in a devastating car crash, having his four-legged pal by his side was worth ten times more than ever before.

The Oregon public were in shock after witnessing a horrible accident taking place on Highway 26 on December 2, 2024.

A young man named Matthew Weatherman was in the car with his dog, Bravery, when he accidentally hit a patch of black ice, resulting in almost fatal injuries.

He was immediately airlifted to a hospital, where he was diagnosed with a fractured pelvis and five broken vertebrae, as well as collapsed lungs and a lacerated spleen.

Weatherman was unconscious for most of the time. When his mothers arrived at the ICU, he managed to gather enough strength to ask about his dog, Bravery. Unfortunately, she was nowhere to be found.

Weatherman’s parents, the Waggin’ Tails Search and Rescue organization, as well as his friends who started a GoFundMe campaign, immediately visited the crash site, hoping to locate Bravery.

After spending more than three hours scanning the dense forest and ravine, Susan, one of Weatherman’s moms, heard a helpless yelping. Thanks to her dog, Daisy, who helped locate the pup, they successfully pulled Bravery out of the ravine.

“She braved through the frozen night in the snow in the woods on the side of Highway 26 outside of Banks, OR. We are over the moon! Welcome home, Bravery,” Lee Ellen Reed, the organizer of a GoFundMe campaign stated.

He Now Has A Fighting Chance

Thrilled to have finally found the dog (and hoping to lift their son’s spirits), Colleen and Susan immediately rushed to the ICU with Bravery. Although he was still unable to speak any words, the moment he saw his furry bud held in his moms’ arms, he was beyond happy.

You could just feel the rush of emotions filling the room’s air as Bravery slowly crawled into Matthew’s bed. She slowly leaned her head on him as if to say: “I’m here, dad. Don’t worry.”

This tear-jerking reunion soon made headlines across the country, showcasing the great amount of love between a man and his dog.

Thanks to his four-legged companion, this Oregon man now had a fighting chance, according to his moms. Knowing that Bravery was safe and sound with his family, Matthew regained the strength necessary for the long recovery process ahead.

Fortunately, he’s already feeling so much better!

“Matthew has been moved out of the ICU so that’s a good step! His other adorable tiny black dog got to visit him today. Willoughby was very happy to see his dad,” Jenna Bowers, the member of GoFundMe campaign wrote on December 6th.

Matthew and Bravery’s reunion will stand as a testament to what true love looks like. This tiny canine will keep visiting her dad in the coming days, providing him with much-needed motivation and love during his treatment.

When the time is right, the two will pick up from where they left off, hopefully awaiting many exciting adventures in the future!
