Abandoned Senior Weimaraner Still Has Reasons To Wag His Tail

Taking care of senior dogs can be a bit challenging, and unfortunately, not everybody is willing to do it.

Dax, a senior pup, was surrendered to a local shelter because his owners could no longer keep up with his needs. Fortunately, the world being full of good people, this scared and confused dog got his tail wagging again.

Looking For Help

After hearing about a 20-year-old Weimaraner dog named Dax, who was surrendered, the staff at Big Dog Ranch Rescue (BDRR) was more than willing to help.

This rescue team loves each and every dog and breed, but when it comes to Weimaraners, they truly are special to them.

Our founder began Big Dog Ranch Rescue because she was an avid Weimaraner lover. That’s how the ranch started — through Weimaraner Rescue, in Florida. Anytime we see a Weim, we’ll help out. But, this was a really unique situation, Natalie Rubino, BDRR’s digital marketing director.

Life At A Shelter

A local animal shelter contacted the rescue team, informing them that a senior Weimaraner had recently been surrendered. Since BDRR is the largest cage-free rescue in the nation, they figured out that this old doggo would be most comfortable in their hands.

He would never do well in that environment, so they called us and we met them half way, then brought Dax back to BDRR.

And, they were totally right! As soon as Dax came to the shelter, he was showered in love and adoration. He even got his bed placed in the office of BDRR director, Lauree Simmons, showing this sweet senior pup the respect he deserves.

According to research done by Pet-Pardon, older dogs have a tendency to spend nearly four times longer in shelters than their younger doggo friends.

Keeping this in mind, BDRR took to their TikTok account, sharing the story of this pup and informing everybody that he needs a new home.

@bigdogranchrescuefl 💙PLEASE WATCH-LISTEN-READ-SHARE This is DAX 🐾 a 20 year old Weimaraner surrendered by his owner and is now foster care with Big Dog Ranch Rescue. It is unfathomable to think about a loving loyal 20 year old senior dog, at the end of his life span, given up and left confused and heartbroken. 💔 Please let Dax’s story be a reminder of the responsibilities of being a dog owner, physically and emotionally. They are not just dogs-they are our children and our family memebers who love us unconditionally and remain forever loyal, asking for little in return. 💙Miracle Fund Donate: Link in Bio ☝🏻 🐾 Adopt: www.BDRR.org/adopt 🏠 Foster: [email protected] 💚Donate: www.bdrr.org/donate 💲Venmo: @bigdogranchrescue 💰CashApp: @bigdogranchrescue 💵Zelle: [email protected] #bdrr #bigdogranchrescue #fyp #savedogs #trending #adoptme #dogrescue #viralvideo #adoptdontshop #shelterstories #seniordogrescue #Weimaraner #weimaranersoftiktok #weimaranerrescue #helpadoptme #miracledogs ♬ the winner takes it all – november ultra

Luckily, the friendly folks at Love4Paws offered Dax a temporary foster home, gathering donations and ensuring that he was as comfortable as he could be. Since he was having some issues with his back legs and needed a wheelchair, the donations were quite necessary.

The incredible hoomans who saw the post did not hold back!

Through all the generous donations, they not only provided Dax with a wheelchair, but also with necessary medication and supplies such as an orthopedic bed, food, and lots of toys.

Many offered to adopt this sweet pup, but BDRR knew that this dog had to be put into the perfect home that would fit all of his needs. And, they sure found it!

New Beginning

Soon, Dax was adopted into a loving home with his mom and two dog siblings. He also brought along a resident dog trainer to ensure that the 3 pups would adjust to each other

However, the trainer wasn’t even necessary since Dax and his sibling clicked right away.

There were no issues with them — it was like something from above. That’s also so important for Dax. It renews his spirit. He’s got siblings running around, and he wants to keep up.

Unfortunately, Dax can’t really keep up with his younger siblings since he has arthritis and trouble walking.

To help with this, he took up swimming and the incredible people from BDRR have promised to cover all of his medical expenses for the rest of his life.

Facing all of these unfortunate circumstances, but being the good boy he is, Dax left them all behind and took on his new life right by the tail, enjoying every day he spends with his new family.

Final Word

Becoming an old dog can really take a toll on a pup, but this isn’t an easy task for the owner either. Looking at a once happy and energetic dog now not being able to even walk makes one forget that it’s not their fault.

We cannot cheat Father Time; however, we can make sure that our senior doggos live their most comfortable life, even if that means it’s in a completely different home.

So, I would like to thank Dax’s previous owner for finding the courage to leave him at a shelter, knowing that they would provide the best life this dog truly deserves
