Many canines come into this world through the process of breeding, and there is nothing bad about that. However, that is the case if the breeder is a professional who knows what he is doing.
Unfortunately, nowadays, many people breed dogs only because of profit, and most of the time, they do not do it properly.
The consequences can be truly devastating as many dogs that are born that way, have lifelong health issues.
The employees of one shelter in New York City were best convinced of that when they saved a deformed puppy that was the product of so-called backyard breeding.
A Miserable Life
For those of you who don’t know, a backyard breeder is a person who breeds dogs without needed knowledge of the breeding process. Of course, in most cases, the product is the puppy that has deformities and some major health issues.
One day the rescuers from Animal Care Centers of New York City (NYCACC) saved such a puppy in the middle of New York City.
According to the Instagram video posted by @nycacc on October 22, 2024, the poor eight-week-old dog named Eeyore was so deformed from that irresponsible way of breeding that he was unable to walk on his own.
The NYCACC wrote that “his front legs are bowed, leaving him unable to walk properly,” adding that Eeyore is also suffering from a non-contagious form of mange, “which gives his skin a crusty appearance.”
“He’s underweight but has a disproportionately large pot belly, from an intestinal parasite infestation. All signs of irresponsible breeding, likely by a backyard breeder,” the shelter stated.
This is all quite heartbreaking, but luckily, he was saved by the shelter and will be getting all the necessary treatments.
“Found alone and unable to walk, he’s now getting the care he needs—but his journey is far from over.” the shelter wrote in the caption of the video.
A Cycle Of Suffering
Eeyore and the puppies who share his fate are sadly not the only ones who suffer when it comes to backyard breeding. The female dogs are the main figures in this whole process as they are the ones who are needed for the new dogs to be born.
In that whole process, they are continuously used for giving birth to new puppies which is not something natural for them. To make matters worse, when the breeder no longer needs them, they are most often dumped like trash.
This creates a cycle of suffering in which there are deformed puppies as well as exploited female dogs who are left on the street and can not find a home and a loving family.
There are many such cases that people from the NYCACC know best, and proof of that is another dog named Pun whose fate is similar to Eeyore’s.
“Pun, another dog in our care, has a similar bow-legged stance along with airway deformities and underbite, and skin infection,” they wrote, adding: “Both Eeyore and Pun stories highlight the lasting pain and suffering from irresponsible breeding.”
This story is full of darkness and heartbreaking fates. However, there is also some good news — Eeyore has a potential adopter lined up and, as soon as he gets better, he will be in a warm home with a loving family.
