A dog’s life can sometimes be really difficult and full of downfalls. Neglect, abuse, or abandonment by his loved one are perhaps the most difficult things that can happen to him.
However, there are dogs that are “forbidden” to feel happiness from the very first day of their lives. These are the canines who are born disabled and for whom many doors are immediately closed.
This is exactly the fate of a disabled dog named Ivar who came to a California-based shelter about three years ago. His journey was not easy at all, but things changed for this dog at one point in his life.
Rough Life
Ivar came to Marleys Mutts Dog Rescue, a rescue organization located in Kern County, California, with four other handicapable dogs.
Although none of these dogs were in a particularly good mood at the beginning of their stay at the shelter, Ivar stood out in particular. His sad look reflected the hard life that this dog had previously lived.
Besides, Ivar wasn’t too thrilled with the fact that he suddenly found himself among so many other dogs. It was a kind of shock for him and that was an indicator that he had been very lonely in his life so far.
However, with the support of dedicated and loving shelter employees, things started to change, and Ivor slowly started to come out of his shell.
Special Friendship
After only a few weeks of his stay in the shelter, employees and volunteers could finally see Ivar’s true colors, and they were delighted. The shelter’s enrichment coordinator, Danielle Taylor, was particularly impressed with him.
“He just has this infectious spirit about him,” she said in a shelter’s TikTok video. “Everyday come in, doesn’t matter if you’re having a troublesome day, you can just walk into that bedroom and that smile on his face just lights everything up.”
However, Ivar’s happiness and positive energy truly culminated one day when he met another disabled dog named Bobo. Soon, these two formed a special bond and became true soulmates.
They were not separated from each other – they played, ate, and even slept together every day and night. It was truly satisfying watching them be so happy with each other.
Unfortunately, this fairy tale came to an end when a loving family decided to adopt Bobo. As much as the shelter staff was glad that this dog finally found a forever home, their hearts were breaking as they looked at the inconsolable Ivar.
Luckily, this story will soon get its truly heartwarming twist, thanks to this special friendship.
The Happiest Ending
Ivar spent three years in the shelter – a good part of that time without his best friend. No matter how hard it was for him to endure, this resilient dog did not remove the smile from his face and did not stop cheering up the people at the shelter.
Then, after all that time, the happy news finally arrived for this disabled dog. Yet, he could not have dreamed of how much happiness the family that decided to adopt him would bring him. It was not an ordinary family, but the very one that gave his best friend, Bobo, a forever home.
After all the suffering he went through, this dog finally got everything sorted out in his life – he was finally in a forever home as well as reunited with his best furry friend.
“They are such amazing dogs and they deserve to be in a home and be loved,” Ivar’s and Bobo’s adopter Cande said at the end, and Danielle, who could hardly hold back her tears of joy, also agreed with her.
