It is hard for all true dog lovers to witness the heartbreaking situations that our furry friends go through every day. There is so much neglect, abuse, and abandonment that it is hard to comprehend.
You can only imagine how difficult it is for the people who have devoted their whole lives to helping animals. Rescuers and shelter employees witness numerous heartbreaks every day, but they always find the strength and motivation to continue.
It was the same this time when the staff members from SPCA of Petersburg & Colonial Heights found an open chip box and heard tiny cries coming from inside.
They were totally heartbroken, but they decided to do everything to give this story a happy ending.
Poor Little Ones
As soon as the staff member of the SPCA in Colonial Heights, Virginia, heard whining from inside an open chip box, they already guessed what it could be.
They secretly hoped they were wrong, but a peek inside confirmed their fears. Inside this box, left out in the cold by some heartless person, were seven helpless puppies. These people were not just heartbroken, but also very angry because of this situation.
“These poor babies are only around 2-weeks-old, eyes barely open to not even open at all. They had urine staining and feces stuck to their bodies. THIS IS NOT THE ANSWER!!!!!!” Colonial Heights Animal Control wrote in their Facebook post.
However, they were also happy they found them because if not, the puppies probably wouldn’t have survived at “45-50 degrees this morning.”
Right after that, they rushed them inside the heated building and began cleaning and warming them. They put them in “a clean tote and a nice warm blanket,” and provided them with everything they needed.
However, since there was no mother with them, these people knew that it would be very difficult to feed them and take care of them.
That’s why they decided to call for help.
Finally Safe And Sound
Because of this specific situation, the SPCA got in touch with Richmond Ruff House, a rescue organization located in Richmond, Virginia. Although their capacity was almost full, they were happy to help.
As soon as the fur babies arrived, they were welcomed by a comfy bed and a warm blanket. Most importantly, there was a foster dog named Libby who was supposed to nurse them as they did not have their mother to do so.
“Libby is still nursing her babies so it was worth a shot to see if they would take to her. So far no luck. Libby is certainly willing though!!” the rescue wrote in their Facebook post.
This meant that they would have to bottle feed them and that is quite demanding and even more expensive. Since the rescue employees and volunteers were quite touched by these puppies’ heartbreaking fate, they couldn’t just give up on them.
However, they still needed donations because the feeding formula is very expensive. Fortunately, many good people responded and donated money so the little pups got everything they needed to thrive.
These puppies are now finally safe and sound thanks to many good souls. However, there is still a long road ahead of them before they all settle in their forever homes.
Yet, we have no doubt that they will ultimately find their happily ever after
