Lately, I have read almost too many stories where a family abandons their dog by just dumping him on the street or leaving the pup chained after they move to a new house.
How anyone can do this is seriously beyond me. I just can’t fathom the idea that someone would do this. If you seriously don’t like your pet, surrendering them to a shelter is the humane choice.
And yet, not too many people do this. They are just okay with leaving them on the street to starve. Many dogs who spend their lives in a house have a hard time adjusting to this life.
It was no different for this pup who was just abandoned by his family out of nowhere, so she was forced to take care of herself, but it didn’t work out so well for her.
Rescuers Are Trying Their Best
When rescuers first heard about this case, they were in complete shock. Nevertheless, they focused on the task at hand and went to rescue the pup.
After finding her, they saw that she was crying and could barely move. She had no strength left, and it looked like she was seriously sick.
The rescuers wasted no time and immediately took her to a clinic where a kind woman decided to help her and give her medical treatment.
When they took her to intensive care, she was unconscious and they took that time to conduct all necessary tests to see what was wrong with her.
They assumed that she had some fractures, but without a CT scan or an MRI scan, they couldn’t confirm anything. She also had several contusions.
One was on her lungs, the other was on her heart, and a third one was on her liver. And, her gastrointestinal tract was not working properly.
The pup had a lot of fluid inside her, and the veterinarians had to get rid of it. The CT scan confirmed that the dog, now named Michelle, had several fractures, but they didn’t want to touch them because they were not serious and would heal on their own.
After that, she was taken to get an MRI scan, which confirmed that she also had several serious problems, but they were treatable.
When her sedatives wore off and she finally regained some of her strength, Michelle was able to eat and drink with the help of her veterinarians.
Michelle’s Determination
Her condition stabilized and the treatment she was put through was working. Soon enough, her veterinarians would teach her how to walk again.
When she finally got a bit better, everyone was so proud to see the progress she had made. Michelle was able to stand on her own.
She was taken to see a specialist about her rehabilitation, so she could learn how to walk again with proper guidance.
After weeks of careful therapy, the dog, now renamed Jessie-Michelle, was able to walk properly. The rescuers had no words to describe how happy they were for her.
Now that she was doing a lot better, she was discharged from the clinic. Her veterinarians and rescuers did a monumental job in saving her life.
She was taken to a foster home where they continued her therapy until she had recovered completely.
This pup was finally in perfect health, so her rescuers found her a wonderful new family, and Jessie-Michelle finally got to live the life that she always deserved.
Given everything she has been through, I am so happy to see the progress and determination she showed to recover. She is really an amazing dog.
