Every dog has the innate need to be loved.
Sadly, shelters are full of canines who keep waiting for someone to notice them and give them the love they deserve.
Squirrel is one of the sweet shelter dogs who dreams of finding her person.
She used to have a home and a family, but unfortunately, they dumped her on the streets right before Hurricane Helene hit Florida.
The puppy felt heartbroken as she roamed around wondering why the people whom she loved the most betrayed her.
Starting A Life In Shelter
Fortunately, rescuers at Mercy Full Project, a shelter in Tampa, Florida, found Squirrel before the storm made landfall.
She felt sorrowful and confused.
The shelter was brokenhearted for the pup and they took her in.
“She’s just a little puppy and was so scared,” Mercy Full Project said on TikTok.
Squirrel needed some time to adapt to her new situation and accept the fact that her family wouldn’t come back for her.
The staff tried to console her and chase away her sadness. They gave her a lot of cuddles and reassured her that everything would be alright.
Gradually, Squirrel’s soulful sad eyes began brightening. Thanks to the love that the staff gave her, the puppy felt safe.
Squirrel always wanted to be with her human friends and she pleaded with them for affection.
However, as much as the staff tried to be there for her whenever she needed them, they couldn’t give her all their time.
Every time they walked by the puppy’s kennel, the pup would start jumping and climbing up the bars of her kennel, begging for a hug.
The Pup Longs For A Loving Home
In October of 2024, the shelter shared a video of the affectionate puppy that melted the Internet.
The clip showed Squirrel jumping up and down in the kennel, trying to get noticed.
She had a lovely smile on her face while she pleaded for some cuddles.
One of the shelter members couldn’t pass by the pup and she opened her kennel door.
As soon as she picked Squirrel up, she relaxed and started soaking up her affection.
The viewers of the clip were smitten with the puppy. They hoped that Squirrel would find a forever home as soon as possible.
The puppy is now in a foster home. She keeps waiting for her humans to take her home and shower her with love and endless cuddles that she deserves.
Thankfully, the shelter received many adoption applications for Squirrel and the pup is very close to realizing her greatest wish.
