Florida Pup Puts His Paw On Kennel Bars And Looks Wistfully At People, Hoping To Attract Their Attention

Florida Pup Puts His Paw On Kennel Bars And Looks Wistfully At People, Hoping To Attract Their Attention

No shelter puppy should have to call a shelter kennel their home and miss out on the beauty of life outside the shelter walls.

Sadly, Deuce, a one-and-a-half-year-old pup, had no other choice. When his owner abandoned him, the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC), in Palm City, Florida, took him in and gave him a lot of love.

Although the staff and volunteers did everything they could to make his stay at the shelter as comfortable as possible, Deuce dreamed of finding a loving forever home.

He knew that he could only be happy with his forever humans by his side.

Deuce’s Disappointment

In November of 2024, two months after he was admitted to the shelter, the pup received the best possible news. He was adopted!

Deuce said goodbye to his shelter friends, eager to start the new life that he always wished for.

Unfortunately, the dog’s happiness didn’t last long. After spending a month in his home, Deuce was surrendered because his owner’s health began declining.

Upon returning to the Florida shelter, Deuce showed his playful and positive disposition. He greeted his shelter friends by jumping on their desks.

However, once he found himself back at the shelter kennel, Deuce realized that he had been rejected again.

The pup continued waiting by his kennel. Whenever he saw potential adopters approaching his kennel, Deuce put his paw on the cage, hoping that they would notice him and give him a chance.

“Deuce almost always has his paws up on the cage. He is always tracking people with his eyes, eager to get any small amount of attention,” Sarah Fisher, communications manager at HSTC, told The Dodo.

Asking For A Chance To Be Happy

Every time he watched people pass him by, Deuce’s hope turned into disappointment.

Although Deuce remains calm and sweet while staying at his kennel, he completely transforms when someone takes him outside for a walk. He becomes very energetic.

The shelter visitors who meet him are not ready to dedicate their time to training Deuce and that is the reason why he gets overlooked.

The staff at the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast makes sure that the pup goes on several walks during the day. He also takes agility training exercises and enjoys his time off-leash while playing in the yard.

Deuce has a lot of love to give to his forever humans. He only needs someone who will be patient with him and love him like he deserves.

The pup has shown eagerness to train and he makes progress day after day.

“Our lead trainer, Heidi Fischer, states that he would be best in a home that can provide daily exercise and leash training. She said he has great engagement with using treats and is very trainable… Our training team works with him every day, and he has been making great progress,” Fisher added.

Deuce continues dreaming about his freedom, hoping that someone will give him a chance to show them what a great dog he really is.
