Love truly has the ability to change somebody completely.
And, this isn’t only the case with hoomans, but with our furry friends as well. Most of them are forced to go through such hard and tragic lives that they never get to even live up to their full potential.
Growing up in such conditions rarely makes happy pups. Usually, they end up as senior doggos who are shy and have zero self-confidence. And, because of this, they tend to be overlooked at the shelter.
But, Lady Luck truly smiled at Sheba.
Adorable Old Gal
An adorable pup named Sheba spent 15 years living outside, never feeling the warmth of a loving home on her fur. But, after being taken in by a shelter, Sheba made her way into a loving home as a foster to Veronica and Adam.
“She kind of looked like an old, neglected dog. She was super shaky and unsteady on her feet,” Veronica told The Dodo.
After talking it over with her partner, Adam, they decided to open up their loving arms and take this senior lady in. At first, they believed that they would have her for just a couple of months, but things took an unexpected turn.
After arriving at her new home, Sheba sniffed things around, found a couch, jumped on it, and decided that she was never letting go of it ever again.
Honey, I’m Home
It is safe to say that becoming a couch potato was Sheba’s calling. Whenever she finds a free spot or a hooman willing to give her a nice cuddle, she never fails to get comfortable.
“Very quickly, though, we did realize that she had queen expectations. She wanted to be waited on. She doesn’t want to have to lift a finger. She had very high standards for lots of things.” said Veronica.
But, if only things were that simple. A few months after she became a foster, she went into heart failure and her abdomen started filling with fluid. This required her to undergo an aggressive heartworm treatment route, which ended up being the best decision ever.
After her treatment was done, she became stronger than ever. It was as if time started going backward for her, making her younger and younger with each passing day.
“She is like a real life Benjamin Button to me. When I look at the past 16 months with her, it’s been so cool to watch her, quite literally, age in reverse. And I feel like she just has a kind of new zest for life that we just really weren’t expecting,” she said.
After seeing how big of a transformation this adorable pup went through, it was clear to both Veronica and Adam that they had to adopt her.
Thanks to all the love this sweet pup felt from her new parents, she was able to forget all about the troubles her old life felt and fully embrace her bright future!
