Shock’s life unfolded right by his name – shockingly. Well, at least the big part of it did!
After spending fifteen wonderful years surrounded by love and care from the people who cherished him, Shock was surrendered to a Pennsylvania shelter. The reason? His parents could no longer care for him.
You can only imagine his shock!
Having had it all and then losing everything in just a few days hit this big boi like never before. Unsurprisingly, he almost completely shut down, not realizing that the light was, in fact, at the end of the tunnel.
He Was In Terrible Condition
When Shock first arrived at ACCT Philly, he was unrecognizable. Aside from his age and the fact that his heart had recently shattered into a million pieces, Shock’s physical condition was far from perfect.
His entire body was covered in mats, he had a head tilt that disrupted his walk, and his vision was seriously compromised.
“His body was covered in thick, painful mats, his nails so overgrown that they seemed like an afterthought. A severe infection or injury created a head tilt and caused him to stumble and fall repeatedly, and his vision was clouded by cataracts,” Pennsylvania SPCA wrote on Facebook.
Ultimately, this senior boy was moved to the Pennsylvania SPCA, which offered to care for him during this time. The shelter staff, however, were not optimistic about his recovery at all.
At one point, they were even certain that Shock was in his last days. As they were preparing for the worst – to say goodbye to a dog who had already survived so much in the past, something amazing happened.
Shock took everyone by surprise. Although at a snail’s pace, this senior boy began to improve, showcasing his spark and tail wags as the ultimate way of saying: “I’m still in for a long run, people!”
Needless to say, the entire shelter couldn’t be happier!
“Though his past may have been filled with abandonment and pain, Shock is ready for the chance to feel safe, loved, and cherished in his final years,” the SPCA added.
Little by little, Shock fully recovered and was ready to embark upon an exciting new life adventure. Despite his age, he acted like a rejuvenated puppy, looking for a chance!
Shock’s World Changed Drastically – For The Better
Shock’s life story is truly inspiring. Few could ever hope that he would overcome all the challenges life had in store for him. But, he did, and now, as a reward, Shock was blessed with another set of exciting news!
By the end of 2024, the Pennsylvania SPCA posted the most tear-jerking announcement on their official Facebook page, stating that Shock’s life was changing again – this time, for the better!
“At 15 years old, Shock’s world was turned upside down when his family surrendered him to the city shelter in poor condition. But for the last time, his life is changing again,” Pennsylvania SPCA wrote in an update post.
The post, as you can guess, soon went viral, warming the hearts of thousands of Shock’s supporters across the country. After enduring all the hardships of the last few months, Shock was finally given another chance. And, he took it!
Who would have thought that there could be a big opportunity for this senior dog at 15 years of age? But, there was – and Shock is now enjoying all the joys of his new life, surrounded by the people who love him unconditionally… just the way he deserves!
