Imagine having to leave your long-time family dog at a shelter. What a heartbreak that would be, am I right?
Some people sadly do not share this point of view nor do they consider the heartbreak that a farewell might bring to an abandoned dog. Bam Bam’s owners, for instance, decided to leave him in the blink of an eye.
As a 16-year-old Chihuahua who had only ever known one home, Bam Bam didn’t know anything beyond his hoomans. The abandonment hit him hard and it felt like the end of the world.
Fortunately, one millennial woman with a passion for senior dogs made the decision on his behalf!
Abandoned Through No Fault Of His Own
Sarah Travers has always had a soft spot for senior dogs. Regardless of knowing that the inevitable end is near, her only focus is on what these old fellas can gain in a loving home by living memorable golden years.
So far, she has helped many dogs in need, including her recently departed sweetheart, a Doberman named Delilah who passed away due to terminal cancer.
As heartbreaking as it could be, Sarah has shared so many amazing memories with these dogs “no one ever wants to adopt.” So, when a friend texted her about Bam Bam, she didn’t think twice.
Bam Bam and Sarah met after Chi’s owners decided to leave her for good in a shelter.
They had him for sixteen years and claimed that they had a lot going on and didn’t have time to care for him. That ultimately broke Bam Bam’s heart, as his family was everything he had ever known.
However, as soon as she met Sarah, his hope began to emerge.
“You were left at the shelter by the only family you’ve ever known for 16 years and you get adopted by a girl in her 20s who is obsessed with senior dogs,” Sarah wrote in a TikTok video.
The two went home, with Sarah hoping to give Bam Bam the decent final days that he deserved. However, only a few days later, Bam Bam surprised her with how much life he had in him.
Living The Best Golden Years Now
As it turns out, Bam Bam’s dental issues and a small mass diagnosed during his vet checkup do not stop him from being the spunkiest boi in the house.
Spunky! At 16 years of age! I guess it’s possible! Bam Bam is exhibit A that when you give someone love, they won’t only reciprocate, but become the best version of themselves.
Bam Bam now enjoys playtime, sleeping on a comfy bed, hanging out with his other furry friends, and receiving cuddles from his pawrents.
Sharing his story on TikTok, Sarah received amazing feedback from people all around the world.
“Thank you so very much for adopting seniors!! ❤️You are amazing,” one commenter wrote.
“There is nothing like the love of a senior dog,” another added.
“I adopted my baby at 16 too, she’s 19 now. Thank you for saving this little one💛,” one more commenter added.
Hopefully, Sarah and Bam Bam will get to live many more exciting years together!
