When hosting adoption events, the one thing rescuers hope for is that every dog finds a forever home. These events usually go well, and a lot of pups find a new family.
However, there are some exceptions. Pups with some sort of health issues are usually overlooked because it means that the new owners would have to also finance their treatment.
This is understandable, but it’s also sad because I believe that every pup deserves to find a home, no matter what their condition is.
That’s basically what happened for this pup who was at an adoption event in California. The rescuers hoped to find a home for her, but things didn’t turn out the way they had hoped.
Everyone Was Heartbroken

When Paw Squad 559 first took in Hotdog, they could immediately tell that she was a mom, but she was found without her puppies.
They had no idea what happened to them, but it was a clear assumption that she was used for breeding and her owner dumped her when she was of no more use.
Her rescuers gave her another chance, and she looked happy to be surrounded by people who truly cared about her wellbeing.

LaRee Holt, of Paw Squad 559, told The Dodo: “Unfortunately, due to a heart murmur, she wasn’t due to make it out of the shelter. Once she joined our organization, we were able to get her the vetting she needed and on track to living a good life.”
Things were really looking up for her, and the rescuers had other good news. She would be placed in a foster home until they find a new home for her.
However, she ended up staying a long time because nobody was really interested in adopting Hotdog. The rescuers believed that her heart problems were the issue.
Hotdog’s Adoption Event

In order to help Hotdog, they sent her to an adoption event in California in hopes that at least somebody would give her the chance that she deserved.
Unfortunately, even that didn’t quite turn out the way they expected. Every dog except for her found a home, and she was left alone.
This was just devastating for her. Holt said: “Our whole team’s heart broke when Hotdog remained, looking out of the playpen with the little bit of hope she held onto.”
Nobody could understand it. Even though she was the sweetest dog they ever met, she just couldn’t find somebody willing to adopt her.
After this immense heartbreak, the rescuers decided to try one more thing. They posted her story on their Facebook page once more in hopes that this might spark some interest in her adoption.
A Promising Future For Hotdog

Surprisingly, many people wanted to reach out and give her a chance, and one donor even offered to pay for her treatment for a full year.
As things stand, Hotdog’s adoption is in its final stages, and the rescuers are finally optimistic about her future.
Despite all of her health issues, she deserves this chance, and I am so glad to see that all the effort to help her finally paid off.

Holt ends by saying: “Our organization specializes in the underdogs, and many dogs in our organization wait months patiently for someone to see them like we do — for the gems they really are. When one dog gets adopted, another in need takes its place.”
It’s so comforting to see how everything turned out great in the end. Hotdog’s rescuers didn’t want to give up on her, and as a result, she got her happy ending.
