Kentucky Rescuers Tried To Help Mama Dog And Her Puppy, But She Refused To Be Separated From Her

We have talked many times about how wonderful mama dogs are at caring for their puppies. They devote all of their time and energy to helping their babies.

At the end of the day, they just want them to be safe and grow up to live a life of their own. However, some dogs take this a bit too far.

There are mama dogs that just don’t like being separated from their children for too long, and it leads to them feeling extremely distressed.

In the story we will talk about today, a caring mama dog and her puppy arrived at a shelter in Kentucky, only for rescuers to realize that this mama doesn’t like being away from her baby.

She Is Just Worried

After a husky named Miss Honey, and her baby, arrived at the shelter called Kentucky Humane Society, the staff did their best to help them settle in.

Right at the very beginning, the rescuers noticed how close she was to her puppy. The two of them were rarely separated from each other.

The caring mama dog did her best to help her puppy with whatever she needed. The staff members weighed Miss Honey, and they learned that she was only 33 pounds.

This was not good news. It means she was seriously malnourished for a while now, and her puppy was also likely suffering because of this.

Jennifer Harris, who works at the shelter, told The Dodo: “Miss Honey’s maternal instincts led her to prioritize her 2-month-old baby, Matilda. As a nursing mama, Miss Honey gave everything she had to her innocent pup, leaving her own body lethargic, malnourished and in desperate need of TLC.

Matilda Has Serious Problems

Despite her best efforts to keep the baby safe, the puppy, named Matilda, suffered a serious leg injury, which caused her many problems.

She also lost sensation in that part of the leg, and the rescuers tried cleaning and wrapping the wounds. During the procedure, Miss Honey cried the whole time.

Harris continues by saying: “While our veterinary team was cleaning and wrapping Matilda’s leg wounds, we heard the gut-wrenching screams of Miss Honey from down the hall.”

One of the staff members went outside to comfort her. The mama trusted these people, but she did not like the fact that she was separated from her baby the entire time.

When the procedure was done, the two were reunited again and Miss Honey looked a lot more relaxed.

Because they were both on the path to recovery, the Kentucky rescuers transferred them to a foster home where they could just relax and enjoy themselves.

Everything Is Turning Out Great

They get food, shelter, and a kind family who will care for them. However, even though things seemed promising at first, some problems arose over time.

The veterinarians examined Matilda’s leg, and they were sure that it couldn’t be saved. They would have to amputate it. As heartbreaking as this sounds, it was the only choice.

They performed the surgery on her, and everything went smoothly. They allowed her to reunite with her mom almost immediately, and she comforted her baby the whole time.

Harris ends by saying: “When it comes to humans, Matilda is more confident than Miss Honey, but she’s coming around now that she knows we’re here to help her.

It’s absolutely heartwarming to see just how inseparable the two of them are. Miss Honey is the most caring mama dog I have ever seen, and I hope the two of them find a wonderful home together.
