For big-hearted rescuers, every new day is a new battle. For them, it is not just difficult to go through all the dangers on the way to saving a precious life but also to go through the emotional rollercoaster of witnessing numerous heartbreaking situations.
Staff members of one non-profit organization in Othello, Washington were just hoping that one day, they would have a break from all those massive heartbreaks when something happened that hit them right in the heart.
They came upon an abandoned cardboard box on the sidewalk near their rescue center. They had already guessed what it was about, and unfortunately, their hunches turned out to be correct when they looked inside.
So Many Helpless Babies
As soon as the Adams County Pet Rescue staff members noticed a cardboard box near their premises, they rushed to see what it was all about.
On the box, it was written: “Found on HWY 17,” but when they checked it, their hearts truly broke upon seeing helpless furry babies inside. Although they were mostly sad at that moment, they also couldn’t hide their anger and frustration.
“I think that was the general response from everyone here that day,” rescue staff member Anita Plancarte told The Dodo. “‘Not again.’”
She revealed that there were seven 9-week-old puppies in the box who curled up and stared at them confusedly from their makeshift home.
These people weren’t at all prepared for this situation at the moment, but they had no other choice but to take them inside and do everything in their power to help them, especially because they felt so sorry for them.
It was not easy for the poor puppies, who probably went through a lot, to instantly trust their rescuers, but luckily, there were no major problems.
“They seemed a little, tiny bit … maybe scared?” Anita said. “But not in an aggressive way or trying to bite people. They’re just unsure.”
Fortunately, these people were very experienced and knew the best way to approach them.
“Be Part Of The Solution!”
Staff members at this rescue organization in Othello, Washington had to take care of these seven puppies, which was not easy at the time.
Namely, they were very low on some necessary items, including wet food and puppy kibble, so they asked good people for donations via their official Facebook account.
Aside from that, in that same Facebook post, they also expressed their disappointment and frustration about this situation, asking people to do everything in their power so that this would happen as little as possible.
“Crazy things happen to us all the time! We could decide to not share all the times this happen and just keep it to ourselves or we can share it with you. We share with you so people can see why we are full, why we need more people to spay and neuter their dogs and why when people are on the waiting list and wondering why it’s taking so long, they can see the reality of it. Why our staff is burned out along with every shelter staff person in Washington state!
Be part of the solution!” they wrote.
Fortunately, these seven puppies are now safe and likely to have a bright future. However, this does not mean that some future fur babies will be found by anyone, and if they are, who knows if they will be able to help them?
That’s why it is important that all humans become aware of the seriousness of the situation and do everything in their power so that none of us witness these heartbreaking scenes anymore.
