Hunger is the number-one issue for all stray and abandoned dogs. Once they are without food, it’s only a matter of time before the inevitable happens.
Food is of absolute importance for pups to survive the harsh conditions outside. Yet, only a few lucky ones ever get a proper meal each day. The rest live on food scraps, trash, twigs, and rocks – if they find any.
Levey, a sweet pup with striking, two-colored eyes, was one of those dogs.
She was cruelly abandoned in front of an abandoned school and tied to a fence. There was no telling how long she had to endure such conditions, but she was found in an absolutely horrific state.
She Was On The Edge

When a kind-hearted passerby spotted Levey tied to a fence in front of a Missouri school, they were absolutely shocked by the sight. The dog had no food and water nearby and was all skin and bones.
They immediately contacted animal control officers who evaluated the situation. After realizing that the dog was severely emaciated and needed proper care, they took her to Stray Rescue of St. Louis.

Although lacking capacity at the moment, the SRSL team was more than willing to accept Levey. She was near a tragic ending and needed immediate support.
Fortunately, the well-experienced team knew just the cure! After comforting the pup for a while to make sure she was relaxed, they devised a proper plan to help her.
“She’s scared, but already climbing into our laps for comfort and security. She weighs just 23 pounds,” the Missouri rescue reported on Facebook.

Levey was fed small portions of food around the clock day after day to avoid refeeding syndrome. That way, she was reintroduced to food one meal at a time and the results were incredible within only days.
After a week, Levey was a brand-new dog. She was still underweight and not quite ready for a new home, but her energy was back. And, with energy, her cheerful spirit resurfaced!
Ready For A New Life

All Levey wants to do is play! She’s nothing but the sweetest, happy-go-lucky pup who couldn’t be happier about her current situation. She’s finally far away from the abandoned spot, in a new environment, ready to take on new adventures!
Plus, she’s a social butterfly, which makes her even cuter.
Levey already has a best friend, Alaric, with whom she spends most days. Their energies match perfectly and they are absolutely crazy about each other!
“Not only did you fall in love with them, but they have fallen in love with each other! They are both at a weight that is safe enough for them to leave the shelter and go to a foster home,” SRSL stated.

When the time is right, Levey will be ready for adoption.
Right now, all she needs is a suitable foster home and a caregiver ready to continue with her feeding plan… and to love her!
I really hope it happens as soon as possible!
Good luck, Levey! We definitely can’t wait to see your next update.
