Even with all the rescues Donna Lochmann has conducted over the years, she still refuses to give up on an animal in need, picking up every call she receives.
This is especially true during those times of the year when the weather is acting up. During the summer months, it’s scorching heat, and in the winter time… well, let’s just say that nobody likes to spend the night in the snow.
Especially not pups. That is why the second she received a call regarding a helpless pup freezing outside, she grabbed her gear and her rescue partner and headed over to the location.
You Are Coming With Me
After a neighbor called Donna and told her that there had been a tiny white pup porch-hopping for the past few weeks in the freezing cold, Donna knew what she had to do.
However, she had no idea that capturing this little angel would prove to be one of the hardest things ever. She and her colleague had spent two whole hours driving around the neighborhood in the snow, trying to catch this wild girl.
No matter what they did, the pup just didn’t trust them.
However, their big break happened when they managed to corner the pup on a porch, limiting her escape routes.
But, even then, as Donna tried to get close, the pup made sure to let her know just how much she hated being captured by growling at her.
Luckily, the experienced rescuer was prepared for this scenario, so she pulled out some yummy treats from her pocket and gave them to the pup, letting the pup know that they meant no harm.
Finally Safe
After hanging out on the porch for a little while, Donna was finally able to pick up the little troublemaker, with the help of her coat, and take her to the car.
Spending all those weeks in the St. Louis snow left this pup in poor condition. She was cold, wet, and absolutely covered in mats.
But, not to worry… she was on her way to the Stray Rescue of St. Louis shelter where a little spa day was waiting for her.
A bubbly bath and a much-needed haircut later and the pup, now named Joanie January, was absolutely unrecognizable.
Now all that was left to do was find her a loving foster home, and you best believe that it happened in an instant.
Welcome Home
A loving foster mom by the name of Ally Turner decided to open up her warm home and take in Joanie January. The second the two met, it was definitely love at first sight.
“This girl is a bit shy/timid but is sooo sweet! She’s already my little shadow, wanting to be held and following me around. She’s doing some exploring around the apartment, and her introduction with Emmy went well! Emmy was excited to meet her and Joanie didn’t pay her any mind, haha,” Turner wrote in a Facebook post.
Finally, Joanie was safe and sound. She no longer has to worry about finding warmth or food on the streets as she has a warm couch and a hooman who absolutely adores her.
Can’t wait to see just how incredible her transformation will be!
