When you save a stray dog from the streets, you literally change his entire life. It’s one thing they always hope for.
In shelters, they get food, shelter, and kind people who care for them on a daily basis. But, this is not a permanent solution. These pups still want something more.
They are waiting for somebody to take them to a new life and it’s the only thing they can think about. Some pups are so eager to just leave the shelter that they try whatever they can to get adopted.
That’s essentially what happened to this dog who was at a shelter in California. Her rescuer noticed something strange about her paws when she came to meet her, only to find out the shocking truth.
Why Does She Have Gashes On Her Paws?
When Kels McDonough first visited South Los Angeles Animal Shelter, she came across a sweet rescue pup who caught her attention.
Her name was Carmella and she was a Belgian Malinois. The dog looked uninterested at first because everyone just usually passes by her kennel, so she’s used to it.
However, when Kels stopped, the pup looked really happy to see someone, so she jumped and reached out to Kels through the kennel door.
The kind rescuer asked around about this dog, only to learn that she was put on stray hold in case someone comes to reclaim her, but no one ever did.
It was at that moment that she spotted something shocking about Carmella. She had gashes on both her paws. When she realized where the wounds were, it all became clear.
She got those gashes because she would wait all day at the kennel door hoping that a kind human would come and take her to a new life.
Kels noticed that Carmella’s eyes were filled with sorrow, so she wanted to do at least something in order to help her.
She Posted Her Story On TikTok
Kels recorded Carmella’s reaction to her presence and posted the clip on TikTok in hopes that the outreach would be enough to help her find a home.
Many people saw the video and all of them felt sorrowful after seeing what Carmella has to go through on a daily basis.
One person commented: “This just ruined my whole day. I hope this baby gets the home she deserves.”
It feels really sad seeing just how much hope she had that she ended up with those wounds on her paws. It’s truly heartbreaking.
Another person expressed their frustration by saying: “California, do better! Richest state in the country and look at your animals living like they’re in a third world country. Adoption is for LIFE! Be responsible.”
Well, I don’t know exactly how things work in California, but I feel the need to point out that this is not an isolated issue for just one state. It’s a worldwide problem, and it definitely needs more attention.
For our last and most important comment, somebody said: “My husband and I just adopted her tonight. Thank you for posting this!!!”
It looks like this short clip was very useful for Carmella, considering that she ended up finding her forever home. I am so happy to see she is living a new life now.
This video just goes to show us how much we can all collectively do when we work together, and Carmella’s story is a great example of that.
