The lengths a rescuer will go to in order to save an animal in need will never cease to amaze me.
Whether it’s rain, snow, or scorching heat, they will stop at nothing to ensure that their little furry friends are as safe and comfortable as possible. If you, for some reason, didn’t come across such a story, then I have the perfect one for you right here.
It serves as the perfect example of what an animal lover is willing to do to make this world a better, safer place for everyone!
No Mountain High, No Valley Low
Hope For Paws is a 501c3 nonprofit that has been rescuing dogs across the U.S. for almost two decades now. This Los Angeles organization has worked tirelessly to save dogs in need and give them a second chance at a better life.
So, when they heard about a pup 1,300 miles away who needed help and had no one to save him, they packed their gear, got in their car, and hit the road.
Traveling from Los Angeles to Macdoel, a trip that lasts 10 hours, isn’t a simple task. But, knowing that a little puppy was stranded at the bottom of a well for three days was enough to keep this rescuer going.
Both the Oregon and California Fire Departments and emergency responders had worked for days to get this puppy out, but they simply had no luck.
When the rescuer finally arrived, he made sure to greet the puppy first. Unfortunately, after not hearing him make a single sound, he thought he was too late.
He quickly grabbed a camera long enough to get to the bottom of the well in order to take a better look at the puppy.
After lowering it 60 ft, he finally got a glimpse of the little guy, alive and breathing. Now, all that was left to do was figure out a way to get him out.
No Challenge Too Hard For This Rescuer
Luckily, the Los Angeles rescuer thought of attaching a leash to a long rope and tying a string to it. This allowed him to tighten the leash around the puppy’s body once it was securely in place.
All that was left to do now was to get it around the puppy and lift him from the well. Unfortunately, this proved to be harder than he thought it would be.
The pup kept his head down, enabling the leash to slide on. So, the rescuer figured that if he placed some food on the leash, the starving puppy would lick it, allowing him to finally slide the leash on.
Even with this method, it took the rescuer three-and-a-half hours to get the pup out, but at last, he did it!
Getting the pup on the surface again with minimal injuries is indeed a miracle. And, the first thing the rescuer did when he met him was give him a good cuddle. He knew that he needed it.
Naming him Wellington, the rescuer rushed him to the Pet Medical Center of Klamath Falls, Oregon. After a thorough medical assessment and some rest, Wellington and his rescuer made their way back to Los Angeles.
Happily Ever After
All is well that ends well, but in the case of Wellington, he got the best ending he could ever dream of.
Not only was he safe and sound, but he also found a loving forever home that absolutely adored him. Not a day passes without them showering their incredible boy with tons of hugs and kisses, reminding him that his life, as well as the lives of all animals, are important.
I want to take this opportunity to thank every single rescuer out there for all your dedication and hard work.
You truly make this world a better place.
