Giving a broken dog hope is like giving them a whole world! Even the saddest of canines are able to transform into wonderful companions with just a little love and compassion.
This has been proven true countless times, and Oakley, a ten-month-old puppy, is no exception.
Found in a Missouri yard hiding in bushes, Oakley was coping with serious neglect. Due to improper parenting in the past, this tiny girl ended up being severely injured and had an open wound that was only getting worse.
She struggled with all the pain in silence, far away from decent living conditions, until, one day, everything finally changed for her!
She Was Struggling In The Bushes
Donna Lochmann, the rescuer at Stray Rescue of St. Louis, Missouri, happened to be the right person at the right time!
During one of her outings, she noticed strange movement in nearby bushes in one of the yards. When she came a little closer, she spotted a tiny head peeking out from it. It was Oakley, struggling with a gaping neck wound.
“This adorable 10 month old female puppy was all by herself hiding in some bush. Upon closer inspection, we saw she suffered from a gaping neck wound,” SRSL stated in a Facebook post.
Oakley was clearly suffering from a collar that was too tight, leading to the development of an open wound on her neck. She coped with the pain for days, not being able to heal by herself.
Yet, despite everything, Oakley welcomed Donna with a wagging tail and the sweetest, sparkling eyes.
She was so glad that someone had found her at last, as she definitely wasn’t able to deal with her injury on her own.
Free From Loneliness, Oakley’s Building Towards Full Recovery
The ride to Oakley’s new life was one to remember! This brave girl really enjoyed every second of being close to her savior, and you could just tell that she enjoyed the ride, too!
Donna took her to SRSL headquarters, where she was provided with the best care possible. She got a few stitches that helped her heal fully in just a few short days. What once was an open wound was now just a tiny scar that stood there as a reminder of Oakley’s old days.
“She was rescued, stayed in our clinic where we healed her gaping neck wound. Now she’s in foster, her stitches are out, she’s fully healed, and ready for her forever home,” the rescue wrote in an update post.
Oakley cannot wait to embark upon a new, exciting adventure in her life. She’s one healthy, happy-go-lucky puppy that will definitely make some family really happy.
“She’s dog friendly, and happy as can be. Her foster mom is teaching her all about love and manners with lots of patience – we couldn’t ask for more,” they added.
Hopefully, her forever hoomans are just around the corner, waiting for her!
