Every animal lover and pet owner knows that our furry friends are much more than just pets.
Not only do they make our lives easier by serving as protectors, helpers, and even service animals, but they also see us as their best friends – even family.
So when we mistreat them, whether by being harsh, neglectful, or even just raising our voices, it can deeply affect them, leaving them feeling sad, anxious, or even aggressive. Unfortunately, a pup named Steven knows a thing or two about this.
A Scary Little Life
Just two weeks ago, Steven was hiding in a small kennel at a dog compound that was so overcrowded they had no time to focus solely on him.
He was absolutely terrified and had no idea what was going on.
Luckily, the kind hoomans at the Galgos del Sol rescue organization heard about his story and decided to pull him out of the dog compound and into their loving organization that specializes in rescuing and rehabilitating Spanish Greyhounds.
This particular breed has always been used for hunting. The sad truth is that when the season is over, hunters don’t see use in these dogs anymore, resulting in many of them being abandoned on the street.
The rescuers aren’t sure if this was the case with Steven, but what they did know was the fact that he needed their help.
Everything Will Be Just Fine
After taking this sweet boy to their facility, the shelter staff decided to share with the world exactly what happens when we mistreat an animal.
The video shows this sweet pup cuddled up in the corner of his kennel, leaning against the wall. Hoping it would make him feel better and more comfortable, the staff decided to place a stuffed animal by his side.
Unfortunately, this didn’t help too much. No matter how hard they tried to make Steven feel loved and appreciated, he just kept shaking uncontrollably because he was so scared of people, and refused to have any interactions.

The founder of the organization, Tina Solera, reported that Steven had an injured leg and had to be taken to the vet for a medical evaluation.
“Galgos are abandoned in the tens of thousands every year by hunters so many get run over and are rescued with bad injuries,” she said in an interview.

“How can people be so mean to any helpless animal,” stated another.
One person even said that they are doing their part in helping animals like Steven: “My heart breaks for all of these precious souls that have been abandoned or caged in shelters. I have 2 rescue dogs. If I could, I would take more.”

I am sure that, in due time, this sweet boy will be able to forget about his troubling past and be able to find a forever home that truly appreciates him for who he is.
