Pup Was Locked In A Crate By Neglectful Owners, Leaving Her With Severe Anxiety

Cartier, the pup, was a happy girl who lived a happy and quiet life in her home.

She spent her days having cozy naps, little playdates, and finding different ways to make her owners happy. At the time, she thought nothing could come between her and her favorite people.

Unfortunately, one day, her entire life was flipped on its head.

After deciding that they didn’t have time and energy for her anymore, her family decided to surrender her to a New York City shelter. This left the poor girl confused and heartbroken. She kept wondering what she did wrong to end up like this.

But, the truth was, it wasn’t her fault.

One Day At A Time

Before giving up on her, Cartier’s former family locked her up in a crate to keep her out of the way. The lack of space and movement, as well as love and compassion, made this poor pup severely anxious.

Trying to help her deal with her issues as best as possible, Rebound Hounds, a rescue and rehabilitation shelter based in New York City, took her in and placed her into a loving foster family who understood her struggles.

The loving Katy Brink, along with her husband, Collin, understood exactly what Cartier was going through. Since Katy also dealt with anxiety herself, she had no idea she would ever find somebody who truly understood her until she met her husband.

Knowing how much that helped her, the couple knew they had to show this sweet pup a touch of understanding, too.

Since Katy and Collin already had two dogs, they couldn’t give Cartier the calm, quiet home she needed. She already tried to stay calm around other dogs on the street, so living with two just wasn’t an option.

For over a year now, Cartier has been looking for a loving forever home, but she has simply had no luck.

“Cardi would love a quiet home with someone who wants to share their routines and walks with her and just let her hang out near them. She doesn’t have separation anxiety, but she will really blossom when she’s the only dog in the house and can fully relax and roam free. She’s an easygoing grown-up dog at home, who just likes to chill with her people,” Katy told The Dodo.

Anybody Looking For A Pup?

Even though she isn’t a high-maintenance pup like some, she still needs some extra love and attention. Cartier has been such a good girl at her foster home, trying so hard to fight her anxiety. And, she will definitely continue to do so with her forever family, too.

“She isn’t vocal or aggressive around new dogs or people, but she is on high alert and may pull and struggle to focus on taking treats from her person when a trigger is near. She’s working so hard to overcome her anxiety in new situations and is all the more sensitive and special because of it!” she added.

But, Cartier isn’t only defined by her anxiety.

She is also super smart, funny, and extremely empathetic. She gets zoomies when she’s in the kitchen and she absolutely adores playing with her toys while lying on her back. Cartier also loves having her hoomans around all the time, and being a couch potato is in her soul!

“The dogs who nobody wants are the dogs who create the most joy,” Katy said.

There are just too many things to love about this pup – she needs to be given a chance. So, if you are able to open up your home to this sweet girl, feel free to check out her adoption profile and fill out an application at Rebound Hounds.
