Living your days in a shelter isn’t as easy as one might think.
Even though you are surrounded by incredible staff and volunteers who do everything they can to ensure that you have the best time possible, sometimes that just isn’t enough.
Countless adorable animals who are forced to stay at a shelter share the same dream – to be adopted by a loving family.
All they want is to spend time with a hooman they can call their own no matter if that means running around, playing, or just laying on the couch.
Unfortunately, Echo has dreamed these dreams too many times.
Is There Something Wrong With Me?
When a sweet pup named Echo first arrived at the Valley Animal Center based in Fresno, California, he was just a little puppy. Knowing that puppies get adopted quite fast, the shelter staff knew his stay was going to be brief.
And, they were right.
Just a couple of days later, a family filled out his adoption papers and he was on his way. Unfortunately, his shelter story didn’t end there. After some time, he was returned to the Fresno shelter, confused as to why his forever family decided that they no longer wanted him.
And, this happened three more times. The most heartbreaking thing, however, is the reason why he was returned.
“Echo is a young high-energy dog, and we explained to each family he will require a lot of enrichment and exercise, walks, and trips to the dog park, but each family has stated that they do not have the time to train him or exercise him,” Ruben Whitney-Cantu, animal care adoption supervisor said in an interview.
Whitney-Cantu also shared that his first adoption lasted only eight months while his second lasted ten. Heartbreakingly, his third adoption was only a couple of days long as he was returned after he used the bathroom on the concrete and not on the grass.
Finally, his last adoption lasted ten short months.
She stated that even though his previous owners gave him time to adjust, they simply couldn’t handle him because he had “too much energy” and they just didn’t have time to train him.
“Echo has such a wonderful personality; everybody he meets is like he is seeing his best friend, even if he has never met that person. He is great with other dogs, has lived in a home with children, great on leash and in the car for rides,” Whitney-Cantu said.
Looking For A Home
Because of all of this back and forth between his new homes and the shelter, Echo isn’t doing too well.
He started barking out of stress, and any time he would notice a person come up to his kennel, he would be absolutely terrified. This is quite shocking considering that he loves hanging out with people outside.
Every single person in the shelter is doing their best to help this sweet boy overcome his trauma and find a home where he will finally fit in.
“With Echo being such a friendly dog, there aren’t a lot of barriers for his next home. Echo is not a perfect dog, but with a little work, effort, and commitment, he will make a great friend and pet to someone out there,” she added.
If you are someone who can offer him a home where this adorable pup can finally be himself, please do not hesitate to contact the shelter for more information.
Be the hooman who will show sweet Echo that he is loved.
