Shugy, a pregnant homeless dog, endured hunger and cold weather day after day.
She dreamed of finding a warm and loving home where she could safely deliver her babies.
One day, Shugy came to a Dollar General parking lot in Mississippi, believing that people would help her leave her sad stray life behind.
Although she begged them for a little bit of compassion for months, nobody helped her and Shugy felt invisible.
Little did the doggo know that big-hearted people would soon surprise her with a new beginning.
Shugy Finally Gets Help
When Mary Smith and her mom came to Dollar General, they noticed Shugy.
Realizing that she was heavily pregnant, they were worried for her and her future babies.
Since they couldn’t stop thinking about her, Mary and her mom returned to the store the next day.
After talking to the store clerk, they found out that Shugy didn’t belong to anyone and that she had begged people to help her for months.
The mother and daughter decided to take the soon-to-be-mother with them.
Although Shugy knew that she needed help, she was terrified. Her heroes cuddled her and the doggo agreed to come with them despite her fear.
Mary and her mom brought her home and gave her a bath.
They felt sad when they noticed oil stains on her fur. They knew that Shugy had been forced to sleep under cars in order to stay warm
They cleaned her up and prepared her a comfy place to get some rest.
Feeling Safe In Her Rescuers’ Home
At first, Shugy was exhausted, but she was too scared to fall asleep.
Mary and her mom talked to her in a gentle voice and treated her affectionately. After a while, the doggo finally felt secure and she drifted off to sleep.
The Smith family watched her as she slept and they couldn’t help falling in love with her.
The following day, the doggo’s heroes took her to Nunnery Veterinary Hospital in Summit, Mississippi.
Shugy was diagnosed with heartworm, hookworms, and ear mites. The vet estimated her to be one year old.
The dog was the sweetest girl and stole the hearts of the vet staff.
After the vet prescribed her the necessary treatment, Shugy returned home.
Once she decompressed, she started enjoying the warmth and comfort of a home. The doggo wagged her tail as she walked in the yard. She was happy.
Mary had to go back to school and her family took care of Shugy.
Much Deserved Happiness
A week after the doggo was rescued, she went into labor.
Smith’s mom FaceTimed Mary so that she could see Shugy welcoming her puppies to the world.
The doggo gave birth to seven adorable furballs.
For Mary, it was an unforgettable experience.
As soon as she could, she went to her parents’ house to see the sweet mama dog and meet her babies.
Shugy was a wonderful mom. She cared for her puppies and showered him with love.
They thrived and felt carefree.
When the pups grew up, they were like toddlers and the Smith family had their hands full.
Once the puppies reached the ideal adoption age, they began looking for a permanent home. Thankfully, all the furbabies found their forever families.
“They were incredibly wanted and they all have great lives,” Mary told The Dodo.
The Smiths kept Shugy and one of her babies and Mary gave a forever home to one puppy.
Mary is convinced that Shugy and her puppies were destined to become a part of their lives.
Many thanks to the Smith family for rescuing Shugy and for giving her and her babies a chance to be happy.
