When an owner from Dallas, Texas, stumbled upon a poster hanging on a shelter dog’s kennel door, they noticed something interesting about her. She looked exactly like their dog, Buddy, whom they had adopted several years ago.
This unlikely situation sparked the owner’s curiosity, so they decided to investigate further. Little did they know that the dog held a shocking secret that would change their lives forever!
Shocking Reunion After Many Years
Seeing Candy sitting in her small kennel at Dallas Animal Services, Texas, was truly heartbreaking. After five years of life in a loving home, she was surrendered by her owners to the shelter.
Unfortunately, she went from beloved to overlooked within days. Candy was a black adult pup nobody wanted, so when Buddy’s owner noticed her poster, they immediately rushed into action.
To make things better, Candy looked exactly like Buddy, which made the owner wonder.
They were about the same age and had the exact same “Shar Pei mix” look, so they decided to collect more information about the dog.
After some time, the owner came to a shocking conclusion! Candy was not just a dog who looked similar to Buddy, she was his actual sibling!
Both dogs had the same intake date as puppies. They parted ways more than five years ago when Candy went into another home, and now she was returned by her family.
“They are from the same litter. Both dogs have same original intake date when they were puppies. I adopted Buddy when he was a puppy and Candy got adopted by another family and they surrendered her when she was 5. And then I rescued her,” the owner said on Reddit.
This unlikely and stunning reunion soon took the internet by storm. The owner posted Candy and Buddy’s story on Reddit and comments began pouring in.
“Awww. They look like they’ve been together their entire lives. Absolutely love this,” one user wrote.

After all those years, the two long-lost sisters were finally together… and they bonded immediately!
Living The Best Life Today
Despite her past heartbreak, Candy is living her best life today. She’s finally in the right home surrounded by the people and her brother who love her so much.
During the first couple of weeks, she was evidently in fear, but those days are now behind her.
“When we first rescued her you could see the fear in her eyes. She trusted no or. She’s now the happiest and best dog. They are best friends. To say the least,” the owner concluded.
One thing is for sure: Candy and Buddy still have many exciting adventures ahead of them.
