How do you say goodbye to your favorite childhood buddy?
No matter how old you are or how long it’s been since you last saw each other, those childhood memories never fade away.
When Alden Cuevas and her brother, Jackson, from Texas, last saw their dog, Shiloh, they never imagined it would be for the last time. Their stepdad and Shiloh drove away that day, and they never came back.
That was until one day, seven years later, something truly unexpected happened!
Shiloh’s Tragic Story
This Dallas-based woman accidentally stumbled upon her stepdad’s mugshot on social media when she came to a surprising realization. One of the online adverts called for help rehoming several dogs, and Shiloh was one of them!
Alden immediately stopped in her tracks and was truly shocked. After all these years, she was convinced that Shiloh wasn’t alive anymore, but the advert proved her wrong.
She got in contact with the man who found Shiloh, and that’s when she learned her childhood bud’s tragic story.
Apparently, after she left her home, Shiloh was abandoned and left in a warehouse, where she lived a rough life. She was extremely emaciated, full of ticks and fleas, and had severe arthritis.
She desperately needed someone to rescue her, and Alden didn’t wait any longer. She and her family drove for seven hours straight to pick up her long-lost friend.
In a heartwarming video she posted on TikTok, Shiloh can be seen approaching Alden and recognizing her after all those years. It was a moment filled with pure emotions and tears. Shiloh, at last, found her way home and she never has to leave again!
“Dog memories are crazy. After 7 years I never thought she would know who we were. We were all kids,” Alden stated on TikTok.
It was truly rewarding to see a dog recognize its owner despite all the years apart.
Alden didn’t waste any time, and the next day, she rushed Shiloh to the vet clinic. She was in rough shape and was panting, which made Alden assume that she had a serious condition.
Sadly, she was right. What started as a heartwarming reunion turned into a real tragedy.
In an update video posted days later, Alden revealed that Shiloh had massive cancer that spread around her entire body.
@aldentattoos Unfortunately, we are not even sure what to do. Chemotherapy is expensive and even more so than that it would be extremely hard on her 12 year old body. We have a consultation Wednesday to find out more options to get more time 💔 thank each and every one of you for the kind words. Shiloh is so happy to be saved and you can tell. Im so grateful for this time with her too. “They found 3 softball size mass tumors in her lungs, pressing on her heart. This is why she’s been panting even in the 68 degree house. We assumed it was heartworms from her living outside for years,” Alden wrote on TikTok.
According to the vet, Shiloh has only months to live. Even with chemotherapy that would significantly affect her condition as she’s now a senior, she wouldn’t get a fighting chance.
The entire family was devastated, but they were inclined to give Shiloh the best last days before she leaves for good.
Living The Best Last Days In This World
Shiloh is still adapting to the fact that she’s finally home.
The family does everything in their power to make her as comfortable as possible. She already has a comfy bed and fashionable boots that help her move around easier. Due to her arthritis, Shiloh’s mobility isn’t the best, but her family is there to help her!
After everything she has been through, you can just tell that Shiloh is happy! Despite her condition, she finally gets to enjoy all the love and care she craved for years.
She’s surrounded by the people who love her the most, and that’s the only thing that matters. When the inevitable happens, she will face it with the biggest smile and happiness in her heart because Shiloh is now living the best last days in this world!
