When Briton’s owner took him to the vet, the twelve-year-old dog thought that it was just a regular visit.
Although the doggo had mobility and skin issues, he could never have imagined the real reason why his owner brought him to the veterinary clinic.
When the dog’s owner revealed to the vet that they wanted to euthanize their senior dog, they were shocked.
The vet examined him and came to a conclusion that changed everything for Briton.
Briton Gets A Second Chance

The vet informed Briton’s owner that they believed that the doggo had more golden years ahead of him and asked the owner to reconsider his decision.
After the staff at the Richmond SPCA, a shelter located in Richmond, Virginia, heard about Briton’s situation, they talked to the owner and explained to him that putting Briton down was not justified considering his health condition.
The owner decided to surrender his dog to the shelter and he got a second chance at life.
Tabitha Treloar, the director of communications for Richmond SPCA, learned that Briton’s family was moving out and they couldn’t take their pup with them.
She believes that Briton’s family brought him to the vet and asked him to be put down because they didn’t know they had other options.
The staff at the Richmond SPCA didn’t ask the owners about their circumstances and chose not to cast blame on them. They happily took Briton into their care, hoping to change his life.
The Richmond SPCA vet team noticed that Briton often dragged the tops of his paws against the ground.
After the doggo had an X-ray, the team discovered that he was suffering from intervertebral disc disease. He was also diagnosed with arthritis in his joints, including his shoulders and hips.
The vet team reached out to specialists and looked for the best treatment for Briton’s disc disease.
The Pup Gets All The Necessary Care

Briton also struggled with skin issues. His skin was thickened. Apart from that, the doggo was infested with fleas and had hair loss.
The Richmond SPCA vet team treated Briton’s skin and removed masses.
They’re not sure whether the doggo’s lost fur would ever regrow because he had struggled with his condition for a long time.
Briton’s caregivers continued applying topical treatments to his thickened skin every day.
They hope that Briton, who currently weighs 54 pounds, will drop some excess weight, which could improve his mobility.
Thanks to the dedicated team, the doggo started improving. He is full of energy and enjoys absorbing all the cuddles his human friends give him.
The vet staff suspects that Briton’s hair loss resulted from an allergic reaction to fleas.
After his flea infestation was put under control, the dog’s allergy improved and his skin looked better.
Briton is now in foster care with Renai, one of the regular foster care volunteers at the Richmond SPCA.
As much as the dog enjoys being pampered and getting cuddles from his foster mom, he longs to find a place to call home.
Briton’s friends at the Richmond shelter think that the doggo would do best in a home without stairs. They also suggest that having a ramp would assist him in moving in and out of vehicles more easily.
I hope that the wonderful dog will soon find his human who will dote on him and make him happy.
