You might expect to find many things in a dumpster, but certainly not a living being!
That’s what a random passerby thought when they noticed strange movement inside one. As they approached the dumpster a little closer, the movement became more intense – and clearer.
That’s when it struck them – it was a teeny-tiny creature in need of help, so they decided to intervene.
Nova’s Tragic Backstory
“Who can be so cruel to leave a helpless animal inside a dumpster?” is probably one of the first things that popped into their mind. Yet, after realizing that this sweet boy was in need of help, the passerby immediately rushed into action.
They loaded the dog in the car and dropped him in front of PAWS Chicago.
At that time, Nova was covered with a tarp and the rescuers couldn’t determine his situation clearly, but then a real shock came!
“Last week, our team was headed into CACC when they saw a puppy, Nova, covered by a tarp sitting outside. A Good Samaritan had found him in a dumpster earlier and dropped him off there for help, according to a bystander,” PAWS Chicago wrote in a Facebook post.
This poor little dog had a seriously infected leg that required immediate vet intervention. Sadly, his prognosis was far from good.
Nova’s front leg needed to be amputated in order to save his life.
This tragic turn of events took a toll on him, but Nova ultimately got a chance to start all over. And, as it turned out, he had a whole new life awaiting him!
Hello, World… I’m A Brand-New Boi Now
The Chicago couple, Charlie and his wife, fell head over heels for Nova as soon as they learned his story. Despite his disability, they decided to take him in for good and offer him something he had never had – a decent life.
For the first couple of weeks, Nova was pretty shy. He stuck to his crate, was on alert, and found it strange that people were so nice to him all of a sudden. In a way, he looked astounded whenever he received a nice meal or a gentle pat on the back.
Then, the true transformation happened!
Nova fully acclimated to his new home and embraced his family with paws wide open! In such a short amount of time, Nova had everything, even a new furry brother, Omar.
“He really does feel comfortable at home and you can tell that he’s just happy in a place that’s warm and safe,” Charlie told GeoBeats Animals.
Although he still occasionally copes with his past trauma, Nova does not have a mean bone in his body.
“He’s clearly been through a lot and has a lot of pain and mental scars, but even if he has hard days, he’s still trying his best to be a sweet, sweet angel,” Charlie added.
He’s truly sweet, gentle, and just the best companion who appreciates every single moment of his life!
