A mother’s love is truly unconditional.
Even in what can only be described as the worst of times, a mom always finds a way to provide, protect, and take care of her babies. And, it’s no different in the world of dogs.
This brave momma dog refused to give up.
She stood against the odds, fighting to keep her only remaining pup alive. The two had only each other in this world, and their situation was far from easy.
She Had No Other Choice
When rescuer, Paola, received the news about a nursing mom tied to a fence, struggling on a short rope, she immediately rushed into action.
However, the situation on the site was even more heartbreaking.
This momma had recently lost all of her babies, with only one clinging to life. She and the pup lay snuggled next to each other, refusing to separate.
The momma held onto her puppy as tightly as possible, using the little space she had around the fence to find scraps and feed them to her puppy.
Although her ribs were showing and she was clearly emaciated, her priority was to preserve her baby’s life.
The good thing was – she did an amazing job! The pup was safe and sound next to its brave mother, not missing a thing…except for a nice and cozy shelter they clearly both needed.
Upon meeting the two and establishing contact, Paola scooped the dogs and took them home.
For the first time in what seemed like forever, the mom and her puppy had a proper meal. It was so rewarding to see this little family finally eat real food. They no longer needed scraps and leftovers found on the ground – as they now had it all.
Thanks to Paola, they received a temporary shelter and a safehaven. After everything they had been through, that was the single most important thing they needed.
Brand-New Dogs
Although it took the momma dog some time to adjust to new circumstances, she soon began to trust Paola with her puppy. In no time, the three became inseparable, allowing the mom to have some rest without worrying about her baby being hurt.
Over the next few days, Paola treated this furry family with soothing ointments for their skin. Street life had taken a toll on them, resulting in patches of missing fur.
However, within just a few weeks, everything completely changed! Not only did they get a brand-new look – but they also fully came out of their shells.
The momma appeared as if she had been a brand-new dog. She regained her black, shiny coat and literally looked like a princess.
The pup, on the other hand, grew larger and adorably resembled its momma.
They both displayed an extremely friendly attitude toward everyone they encountered. This newly-transformed family especially loved being in the company of Paola’s other dogs, and finally felt like they were part of the pack.
Life in Paola’s shelter truly helped this brave momma cope with her loss, and knowing that her pup was safe, she couldn’t be happier.
The two are finally in a secure environment, far away from that fence and rope, enjoying life to the fullest.
When the time is right, the only thing left for momma and her baby is to find a suitable family that will show them love. And that, hopefully, is just around the corner!
