As someone who was a proud dog owner once, I admit that one fear I always carried was that my dog would run away and get lost.
I just don’t know how I would deal with that. The sudden feeling of dread would probably overwhelm me, but I would do my best to try and find my pup.
Experiences like this are horrifying for any family who owns a dog, and it happens way more than we think.
This family lost their sweet dog, Oakley, and for a long time, they thought he was not coming back. But, then something unexpected happened.
Search For The Missing Dogs
When Oakley’s family first reported their dog missing, Anakin’s Trails Stray And Pet Recovery took on the task of finding him.
They learned that Oakley’s pet trainer dumped her and three other dogs on the road in South Carolina and just left them there. For what reason could he have possibly done that? Nobody really knows.
The dogs were barely one year old and they were now living in a harsh environment where they didn’t have any food or water.
The four pups had to return to civilization to have any hope of surviving. Because the dogs were reported missing, a lot of people called with information on their whereabouts.
The team that was searching for the dogs talked to different people in Greenville and tried to pinpoint their exact location. It was not easy to track their movements in the city.
Eventually, the rescuers would manage to locate three out of four dogs who were missing. Even though they found them, it was not easy to catch them.
At this point, it’s been months and they have adapted to the new situation. They were wary of other people and helping them required a delicate approach.
Oakley, on the other hand, had not been seen yet. The rescuers would continue their search and attempt to rescue the dogs.
Eventually, they received information about a couple in South Carolina who were feeding two “stray” dogs. Those two dogs were Oakley and Marley.
Oakley Is Finally Safe
They asked the homeowners nearby if it was okay for them to set up a trap. They agreed, and the only thing left to do was wait.
Both Marley and Oakley showed up at the food trap. Unfortunately, a mama cat from the street also went inside and pushed out Marley who tried to get inside.
This didn’t deter Oakley, who got inside and the rescuers immediately rushed to the location to try and help. They saw that Marley was running away, so they tried to slow her by calling her name.
She stopped for a brief second but then ran away. They were not able to save Marley and the other dogs that night, but they would not stop until they were all safe.
Oakley, on the other hand, was finally safe. When she spent more time around her rescuers, she realized that they meant no harm.
She eased up a bit and looked happy to be with someone who treated her well. Shortly after, the rescue team notified her family that she was found and it was now time for a reunion.
When she first came back into her home after being gone for five months, she was confused and didn’t quite understand what was happening.
But, after looking at her mom for a bit, she remembered and immediately jumped into her arms. The two of them were so happy to see each other.
It was truly a heartwarming reunion and I am so happy to see that Oakley can finally continue living her life with her amazing family.
