One of the most heartbreaking things I saw on the street was a stray dog rummaging through trash in order to find something to eat.
It’s terrible what these pups have to deal with on a daily basis. Many of them starve because they just can’t find enough food to maintain their weight.
People usually aren’t nice to them either, which means that they can’t rely on other humans to help them out when they need it.
This poor pup was forced to survive by stealing out of a Starbucks and salvaging whatever she could. The worst part? She was in Grand Canyon Village, Arizona, so food was sparse.
Luckily, her life would take a sudden turn for the better when she met someone really special.
There Is Still Hope
When Zach Lacher first saw a stray dog stealing from Starbucks in order to survive, he was heartbroken by the dog’s condition.
He told The Dodo: “When she got closer, I was able to see how rough of shape her fur was in.“
Zach asked around about this pup in particular and he was able to learn that the local authorities have been trying to catch this dog for a while, but they were unsuccessful.
So, it’s safe to say that she had been living there for a while and she was on high alert whenever humans would get close to her.
So, Zach wanted to help. He came there later that night and waited until he saw her again. Surprisingly, she was there that same night.
The problem? She was really difficult to catch. She had no trust in other humans and she was repeatedly chased off by a pack of dogs who also lived in the area.
When Zach came to rescue her the next day, he prepared a humane trap for her, but he couldn’t find the pup anywhere.
She stayed near the canyon in Arizona, so he had to find her. He said: “So we put the drone up in the air, and we flew it down. I was probably flying it for about an hour, and I was checking the nooks and crannies, and I saw her big, puffy, white tail.”
Haseya’s New Opportunity
Now that they knew where she was, they could come and get her. Or, would they? Well, to their surprise, the pup followed the drone all the way back.
Zach had no idea why she did that, but he was very glad that she did. When she got close, they lured her with food, which helped as she was starving.
The pup understood that the food was inside, and she spent some time around it.
She was hesitant, but eventually gave in and just went into the cage. After she was inside, Zach was able to secure her.
What’s interesting about all this is that the pup didn’t resist at all. In fact, she looked relieved after she realized that she was rescued.
He then took the pup, now named Haseya, into his home. Because Zach had a cat named Jack, he was a bit scared about how they would interact.
He said: “And I was so ecstatic and pleasantly surprised when the first time they met, rubbing their faces against each other and playing.”
It turns out that Zach had no reason to be worried as these two would get along just fine. It’s wonderful to see how sweet Haseya was despite everything she went through in her life. I am glad that she got this second chance to live a normal and peaceful life.
