I bet the first thing that pops into your head when you see a pup is “Aww, what a cute little furball,” Mine, too!
Unfortunately, not all people share our enthusiasm for these four-legged cuties. Instead of loving and cherishing them, some people choose abuse and neglect.
As a result, their puppies end up living poor lives, usually outside tied to a fence with no proper food. To make matters worse, some are even abandoned in the worst possible places such as landfills, woods, or trash cans in remote areas.
Matt McEntire, a long-time volunteer from North Texas, had just witnessed one such case and it was truly heartbreaking!
Heartbreaking Discovery
McEntire’s work, having dedicated a significant part of his life to saving dogs, has gained popularity at the Humane Society of North Texas after he saved two German Shepherd puppies from a trash can several years ago in Crestwood Park, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Little did he know that what followed would be remarkably similar! While walking his dog, Dublin, on New Year’s Day, McEntire heard helpless yelping coming from a large trash can.
As he looked into the can, he was met with a shocking sight – eight teeny-tiny puppies huddled together, freezing and scared.
Without a second thought, Matt immediately rushed into action.
“Matt heard faint whimpers coming from a garbage can. When he looked inside, he was horrified to find eight tiny puppies – abandoned, freezing, and scared. With no food, water, or warmth, their survival was uncertain,” the Texas rescue stated in a Facebook post.
He slowly scooped up the pups and led them to his garage where they found a nice, comfy shelter for the night.
After receiving the much-needed meal, the pups finally relaxed and fell soundly asleep.
The next day, this furry family was transferred to the HSNT facility for further care. And, thanks to Matt’s compassionate rescue, all of them now have a chance to find homes of their own!
Several puppies will be receiving medical care due to upper respiratory infections. Once they get a clean bill of health, all the pups will be available for adoption.
“Thanks to his quick thinking and compassion, the puppies are now safe and receiving the medical care they need,” the rescue added.
Trash Can Puppies Get A Second Chance
According to the rescue, the garbage can pups are Shepherd-Pitbull mixes and are no older than eight weeks. Even though their history remains vague, it is definitely clear that they were abandoned by their previous owners who didn’t want to care for them anymore.
Fortunately, thanks to Matt’s timely reaction, the pups no longer have the odds stacked against them.
Phineas, Guinness, Dublin, O’Malley, Lorcan, Finnegan, Paddy, and Keeva will be looking for homes soon and can’t wait to be added to the adoption list.
When the time comes, I’m absolutely positive that the right families will be matched with them. After the heartbreaking ordeal they went through, they definitely deserve to finally learn what a loving home feels like!
