Mama Dog Roamed The Streets Searching For Scraps Of Food, Fighting Tirelessly To Keep Her Babies Alive

While Amber, a rescuer and the founder of Heart of the Underdog, a rescue in Texas, was on one of her rescue missions, she spotted a black dog crossing a busy road.

Amber felt worried that she would be hit by a car, and she immediately pulled over in a nearby parking lot, got out of her car, and started talking to the doggo.

The rescuer could tell that she was a mother who was nursing her babies.

Amber ran to the store and bought some food, fed the mama dog, and left her with a lot of food.

She searched the area, trying to find her puppies, but sadly, she couldn’t find them.

The rescuer promised the doggo that she would come back for her and her babies the next day.

Rescuing The Mama Dog And Her Puppies

When Amber returned in the morning, the mother dog, later named S’mores, led her to a garage where she lived with her puppies.

After the rescuer got the owners’ permission to enter their property, she was finally able to start rescuing the pups from the garage.

Amber felt devastated to see their difficult living conditions.

As soon as the puppies spotted Amber and their mom, they left their hiding places behind the lawnmowers and came to greet them.

They were adorable and friendly, and the rescuer easily captured them.

Heart of the Underdog placed them in a foster home where they were waiting for their mom to join them.

The furbabies, who were estimated to be around four weeks old, were named Cinder, Flint, Blaze, Graham, Embers, Marshy, Toasty, and Cocoa.

Since rescuing S’mores proved to be more difficult, Amber reached out to a great trapper named Emily, who lured the mama dog into a crate.

The canine family was happy to be together again. The puppies kept jumping with joy and wagging their tails.

S’mores was taken to a vet where she received a checkup. Luckily, she was heartworm negative.

Finding Their Happily Ever After

After staying with her puppies for some time, she was put up for adoption.

The delightful dog quickly captured the heart of a lovely couple from Wisconsin who decided to adopt her. The doggo was all smiles when she moved to her forever home.

S’mores, now named Maggie, is enjoying her life to the fullest.

All her puppies found their forever families except for Toasty.

Everyone at the rescue is delighted with the pup and has nothing but words of praise for her. They hope that Toasty will soon be adopted.

“She learns VERY quickly and is also crate AND potty trained! She has her playful puppy moments, but also loves to cuddle up for snuggles on the couch. Her foster mom describes her as a total sweetheart,” Heart of the Underdog shared on Facebook.

If you’re looking to adopt a sweet puppy, please meet Toasty and give her a chance to steal your heart.
