Kayakers Were Horrified When They Untied A Potato Sack That Was Floating In The River

Unfortunately, people nowadays are not very environmentally conscious. This is why we often see garbage floating on the surface of rivers and lakes.

For this very reason, some kayakers were not surprised when they saw a potato sack floating on the surface of the Blackstone River in Massachusetts.

However, soon after that, this situation became very strange to them when they noticed that the sack was moving and making strange noises.

That’s why they immediately went into action and pulled the sack out of the river. When they untied it, these people weren’t just shocked, but rather terrified by its content.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The kayakers quickly realized that something alive was inside the sack. However, nothing could have prepared them for what they found there.

Inside were six newborn puppies whining and uncontrollably shaking from the cold and wetness. These people were horrified and absolutely heartbroken.

Fortunately, they managed to pull themselves together quickly and call the authorities. Soon, officers from the Uxbridge Police Department in Massachusetts were on the scene and they had some good news.

“As a police chief, I believe these kayakers were truly their guardian angels,” Uxbridge Police Chief Jeffrey Lourie said, according to CBS News. “If they hadn’t been found in time, it wouldn’t have been long before they were fully submerged and lost.”

Luckily, the sack did not sink below the surface of the water, but still, it was not without consequences. One of the puppies was stuck at the bottom of the sack and had taken some water and mud into its lungs.

Fortunately, the puppy managed to survive and that is the most important thing. Still, the police expressed their outrage and said they would act appropriately.

“This is an unspeakable act,” Lourie said. “We are determined to find the individual responsible and charge them with six counts of animal cruelty.”

They referred to the suspect as a “low life” and called the act “heinous and unconscionable.”

New Lives

They estimated that the puppies were only one week old, and considering this, it was a true miracle that they managed to survive.

That was exactly why these people did everything to take good care of them and give them the life they truly deserve.

Soon after the kayakers saved them from the river, these Labrador mix puppies were transferred to Uxbridge Animal Control where the experienced caretakers gave them everything they needed.

It didn’t take long before the media announced that these puppies, who were in the meantime given water-theme names like River and Creek, were healthy and happy in the home of Uxbridge Animal Control Officer Kevin Sullivan and his family.

Considering the number of inquiries for their adoption, we have no doubt that they found their forever homes soon after and that everything ended well.

Although the beginning of this story was like a horror, the good people made sure that its ending was like a fairy tale.

We all thank them for that!
