Freedom. We all want it, and dogs are no exception.
Aside from cozying up next to their beloved hoomans, every dog’s dream revolves around running freely in an open field, possibly chasing a ball, a stick, or their favorite plushie.
Bruno sadly never experienced any of that.
Instead, he had been locked in a small room, struggling both physically and emotionally with each new day.
He Didn’t Know What Freedom Was
Before being taken in by a shelter, all Bruno knew was a life in captivity. He lived in a small room, far away from daylight, struggling in his own feces and urine.
He epitomized the neglected dog, starved by his previous owners.
“He was locked in a room most of his life…this room he was never, ever let out of,” Bruno’s mom told GeoBeats Animals.
Heartbroken and traumatized, Bruno didn’t know any better. And just when it seemed that things might turn around for him, they became even worse. His family moved to another place, taking Bruno with them.
This time, he was tied up outside on a choke chain, fed only scraps and cardboard pizza boxes. He slept on hard concrete until he ripped up some used beer boxes to make a bed for himself.
Life was as hard as it could be for Bruno. Every day was a struggle and felt like a never-ending nightmare. However, the worst part was that his owners really didn’t care.
That was until kind rescuers showed up and decided to give Bruno a better life. He was taken to the rescue facility and received a treatment he hadn’t experienced in years. Still, what this Staffy truly needed was a home. And soon enough, he got one!
As soon as Bruno’s new mom learned his story, she decided to take him in.
Coping with the loss of her beloved dog, Enzo, she felt that Bruno was destined to be her next pet. And, boy, was she right!
Upon arriving in his new family, Bruno took everyone by surprise. He transformed into the sweetest lovebug within days, leaving his previous life behind.
Plays, Cuddles, Walkies – He Has It All
Bruno’s new family couldn’t be more grateful to see him wagging his tail happily again.
“Knowing the horrors that he’s been through in his short life, then seeing him loving and living to the fullest – really is the best part of it all,” his mom wrote on Instagram.
His mom and dad learned that simple pleasures in life helped Bruno blossom into a brand-new dog. In a video posted on Instagram, Bruno’s owners listed all the things he loves that ultimately make him happy.
Bruno is all about his food, snuggles, being around his hoomans, walkies, toys, and outside adventures.
Being deprived of all these in the past has made him appreciate every second of his new life, and now he has plenty to enjoy.
His owners ensure that each new day is an adventure for Bruno. They travel together, go on hikes, visit various places, play in the fields together, and meet many new friends on a daily basis.
Now that he has all this, it is safe to say that Bruno is fully healed…and he finally knows what freedom is all about!
