Rescuing dogs is not a one-time job.
When I think of it more carefully, I realize it’s not a job at all. It’s a mission. Once you’re in, you’re in for life.
Suzette Hall, a long-time rescuer from California, knew this. However, she was also aware of the emotional burden that came with witnessing abandoned, neglected, and injured dogs on a daily basis.
Some days, she found herself desperately sitting in front of the vet clinic, hoping for the best but fearing the worst news for her rescues.
This was one of those days…
No One Knew How Long She Was Lying There
Recently, Hall received a call that left her truly heartbroken.
A group of employees at a local movie theater in Southern California contacted her about a dog lying helplessly outside.
The worst part was, she was severely injured. The dog literally couldn’t move. She simply waited for someone to be kind and notice her, hoping for the best.
Hall immediately rushed to the spot, knowing that timing was crucial for a life-saving mission. And this was definitely one of them!
Unfortunately, no one in particular seemed to know anything about this dog or even how long she had endured this nightmare. Her pain must have been unimaginable.
“Who knows how long she was laying there, injured badly, so tiny. I scooped her little self up and drove as fast as I could to my vet. Please, please pray. She is in really bad shape. I don’t even have words to write anymore,” Hall wrote in a Facebook post.
The pup, later named Naomi, was immediately admitted to the clinic, where her treatment began. Her prognosis, sadly, wasn’t the best.
According to the vets, Naomi was likely hiding under a car in the neighborhood when she was run over.
The x-ray revealed that both sides of her pelvis were completely shattered, causing total paralysis.
On top of everything, Naomi was in a great deal of pain. Her condition was beyond repair, and there was nothing the dedicated team of doctors could do.
Ultimately, that only meant one thing…
Tragic News
Sadly, little Naomi, who acted bravely until the last moment, crossed the rainbow bridge hours later. She lost her battle for life, leaving Hall and everyone at the clinic completely heartbroken.
“My heart is broken. I couldn’t save her… I would have done everything to save her, but I couldn’t,” Hall shared in an update post.
Despite knowing her for only a short time, Naomi stole Hall’s heart with her genuine sweetness.
“Rest easy sweet, Naomi. You are free to run and play again. You touched my heart so much,” Hall added.
With her loving memory preserved, Hall and her kind-hearted team of rescuers at Logan’s Legacy will continue their important work.
Recognizing that every abandoned and stray dog is worth giving a chance, they will do their best to give these animals at least a little hope in this life. Just as they did for sweet Naomi.
