A dog’s intuition is just beyond me.
The way they sense, predict, and anticipate things is both fascinating and beautiful. And, what’s even better is that they don’t need training to do it. They’re simply who they are.
Among their remarkable abilities, one truly stands out to me: the way shelter dogs know when they’re about to meet their forever families.
Imagine this: they’ve been in a tiny enclosure for days, months, or even years, and then there it is – a family standing in front of them waiting to take them on a new journey. In those moments, they barely can contain their excitement, knowing that what follows will change their lives forever.
Guy, a shelter Husky with a heartbreaking past, welcomed his forever family, too. But, just a few weeks later, he was returned because his family simply didn’t like him. Needless to say, his entire world fell apart.
Choosing The Wrong Family
When Guy found himself at West Coast Cane Corso Rescue in California, the staff welcomed him with open arms. Despite being a Cane Corso rescue, the rescuers simply couldn’t say no to Guy.
He had the sweetest nature, was eager to meet new people, and soon enough, his adoptive family showed up.
However, Guy’s luck didn’t last long. Only a few weeks later, he was returned. The rescuers were told his new owners were afraid of him and didn’t like him.
To make things worse, Guy had another applicant, and the rescue initially went with the wrong family.
“I had two applicants for Guy and I initially chose the wrong family! I adopted him last week, and he just didn’t fit in. I called the other applicant, apologized and he was devastated,” the California rescue wrote on Instagram.
The rescue contacted the other applicant, Abraham, and explained the whole situation. Fortunately, he didn’t change his mind. He still wanted Guy – and immediately rushed to meet him.
The two fell head over heels for each other right off the bat! As it turned out, Guy’s return to the shelter worked out amazingly, as he found in Abraham what he had been looking for all along – a loving family!
The duo drove off to a new home, starting a wonderful journey together.
From High-Euthanasia Shelter To Forever Home
Guy’s life journey is truly fascinating, considering his past.
Before he was saved by WCCCR, he was surrendered to a high-euthanasia shelter by his previous owners. From there, this striking Husky pup was taken to a shady rescue in Northern California in the middle of the woods, alongside more than thirty other Huskies.
He endured high-profile animal cruelty for months until eventually being saved in October 2024.
Despite his tragic past, Guy has never displayed bad behavior or showed signs of trauma. He had wonderful manners from the start, and it was only a matter of time before someone noticed that.
“He has exceptional manners, he enjoys nice food, he is house trained, crate trained, has a recall, doesn’t run away, and has solid obedience training behind him,” the rescue concludes.
Today, he and Abraham share beautiful moments and take on exciting adventures daily. Guy’s new owner makes sure to keep his rescuers updated, saying how happy they are together.
Once an abused dog with zero chance of beginning a new journey, Guy is now a brand-new dog who lives the life of his dreams!
