Jessica, a rescuer at Three Little Pitties Rescue in Houston, Texas, and her daughter, were on their way to see a doctor when they spotted a dog who needed their help.
It was a male Husky who was dashing along the road with a broken leash trailing behind him.
Worried for his safety, Jessica and her daughter pulled over right away, determined to save him.
Jessica’s daughter slipped a leash over the Husky’s neck.
The dog, later named Cotton Jean, sensed that he could trust his rescuers so he asked them to follow him.
They went after Cotton Jean unaware that they would make a heartwrenching discovery.
The Husky Family Is Barely Clinging To Life
Cotton Jean led them to a yard where Jessica and her daughter discovered a sad mother dog locked in a cage. She was severely malnourished and barely holding on.
The mama dog looked at Jessica as if she was her last hope.
Near the mom dog’s kennel, there was another kennel that contained four starving Husky puppies who were desperate to get out.
Jessica burst into tears upon seeing the horrible conditions that the Husky family lived in.
She alerted animal control and urged them to come to the scene and investigate the case.
Meanwhile, Jessica talked to the owners and convinced them to surrender the Husky family to Three Little Pitties Rescue.
She rushed them to an emergency clinic where the vets examined them.
The whole canine family was in rough condition.
The one-year-old mama dog, later named Lavender, was the weakest. Due to malnutrition, she developed neurological issues.
Apart from being underweight, Cotton Jean was dehydrated as well and he was heartworm-positive.
The furbabies were anemic and had to be dewormed.
The vets started doing everything they could to save their lives. Once they were stable, the canine family was put on a refeeding diet.
The Happiest Chapters Of Their Lives
When Cotton Jean and the puppies started feeling better, they moved to foster care where they continued thriving.
Jessica decided to foster Lavender. She and her family gave her a lot of love and care that she needed.
As the mama dog began realizing that she could trust her rescuer, she let her personality show.
“One of the most exciting parts about Lavender was to see her open up and start playing,” Jessica told The Dodo.
Cotton Jean and the puppies found their forever families while Lavender continued searching for her happiness.
The staff at Three Little Pitties Rescue wanted Lavender to see that her puppies were happy, so they organized a reunion.
Lavender and the furballs were thrilled to see each other again and they couldn’t stop giving each other little kisses.
“They all sniffed each other, and the puppies ran around and gave Mama kisses,” Jessica added.
Lavender found a forever home and loving humans who promised to make her happy.
Thanks to Cotton Jean who asked for help, and Jessica and her daughter, the whole Husky family who was on the brink of the inevitable got a second shot at life.
