When the staff at Fayetteville Animal Protection Society, a shelter based in North Carolina, came to work on Sunday, after storms earlier that month, they were met with something very unusual.
In front of their door was a litter of adorable puppies waiting for them to take them into the safe and warm shelter.
As the staff were helping them inside, they found a handwritten note that left them absolutely heartbroken.
Little Litter
The note was written by an incredible homeless man who, despite his own hardships, decided to save these babies. The pups belong to a local stray who he cared for, but since she tragically passed away, he knew he then had to care for her babies.
The note wrote:
“Please help! I found these puppies sadly after noticing a local stray dog that I would often feed when I could, **** by the road. She had been hit by a car. I knew from feeding her that she had puppies somewhere and after searching where I would usually see her I found them. I’m sorry for leaving them like this but I myself am homeless and cannot afford to care for them. My heart shatters for them and their mother. I just want them to be given the chance their mother like myself, was never given. Please do not think poorly of me but it felt wrong leaving them alone in the cold waiting on a mother that would not be coming home. Sincerely, nameless man.”
Absolutely moved by this note, the North Carolina shelter staff was determined to find these babies the best forever home ever.
“Your empathy in the face of adversity gives us hope and inspiration. We promise to honor your selfless gesture by providing these puppies with the love and care they deserve,” the shelter staff wrote in a Facebook post.
But, since the pups are still too young to be adopted, the staff is doing everything in their power to get the pups big and strong; ready for their new life.
They are ensuring that they receive vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and future spay/neuter appointments.
I am sure that since they are so adorable, they will be able to find a forever home in no time. And, who knows… maybe they will even again cross paths with the man who changed their life forever.
Importance Of Shelters
This story is an excellent example of why animal shelters are so important.
They are here not only to rescue animals from the streets, but also to help the hoomans who are not able to take care of their animals for whatever reason.
