Malnourished Great Dane From Florida Suffered A Long Time Because Of A Neglectful Owner

Some animal cruelty cases are hard to believe, yet they are harsh realities. Lloyd’s case is definitely one of them.

At ten years of age, Lloyd’s life turned into a living nightmare. Stuck in between owners amid divorce, Lloyd ended up being severely neglected, weighing 75 pounds – half of what he should have weighed.

He Didn’t Deserve This

It’s hard to believe that Lloyd was an adult dog. Weighing only 75 pounds when he really should have weighed at least 70 more, he left the Florida-based animal control in shock.

Lloyd was surrendered after a severe case of neglect and starvation and has been struggling ever since. Luckily, his misery didn’t last forever.

Chandra Honican, a Kentucky resident and equine sanctuary owner, fell in love with this poor boi and immediately rushed into action.

Thanks to her friends, she successfully adopted Lloyd from the Florida shelter and brought him all the way to her Kentucky home where he began a new life journey.

“Lloyd is officially now a Kentucky dog! We all made it back home safely. He is doing so well, his spirit remains so amazing to watch,” stated Chandra in a Facebook post.

However, Lloyd still had a long way to go.

His stomach was too weak to be fed with adult dog food so he needed a special meal plan.

“It’s hard to even put into words what this dog has been through. It’s even harder to understand how unbelievably skinny he is, pictures just don’t get the point across,” she added.

Lloyd could only intake wet food. On top of everything, he had bloat, a condition that required surgical intervention, but Chandra and his new family were determined to help.

Lloyd In A New Home

After weeks of regular vet visits and bloat surgery, Lloyd finally felt the warmth of his new home – and he loved it! He soon began to exhibit his affection for everyone, revealing that he was, in fact, nothing but a giant cuddle bug.

“He really is such a joy to be around. He absolutely loves affection, if we could all sit with him for hours and just rub on him, that’s what he would prefer,” states Chandra.

Lloyd was fed five times a day in small portions of food due to his condition. Little by little, he began to put on weight, but he still has a long recovery ahead of him. On a positive note, he’s far from being shut down and depressed.

Lloyd finally understands that Chandra’s house is his new home and he enjoys every second of it. He even picked up his new favorite hooman in the world – his mom’s fiancé!

“My fiancé is hands-down Lloyd‘s favorite person in the world, he wants to go wherever he goes! I’m pretty sure he wishes that his humans didn’t have to work,” Chandra concluded on Facebook.

As he’s building toward full recovery, Lloyd will be spending his time with other farm animals and making new friends.

So far, he’s made plenty of them and continues to surprise his owners with his amazing resilience.

What truly matters is that Lloyd will never have to worry about being neglected again. With his mom, dad, and a whole bunch of new friends, Lloyd is finally where he was meant to be all along – in a loving home feeling nothing but love!

Good luck, Lloyd! We wish you many wonderful memories in the years to come!
