Imagine going outside to play with your dog. You are just enjoying a game of fetch. The ball is going back and forth, and your pup is happy to just run around.
But then, suddenly, you throw the ball far away, and your dog is nowhere to be seen. It’s like he just vanished into thin air while running for the ball.
Well, that’s essentially what happened to this family from Washington who was playing with their dog in the yard only to realize that he fell somewhere.
When the dog’s family rushed to the place where he fell, they were completely shocked by what happened next.
It Was A Sinkhole?!
When Rip was playing catch with his family, he ended up in a situation that confused his entire family. One moment, he was there. In the next, he was gone.
They rushed to the spot where they last saw him, only to realize that he had fallen into a sinkhole. Luckily, the sweet pup wasn’t injured at all.
However, the sinkhole was 10 feet deep, so getting Rip out of it was not going to be such an easy task as they had hoped.
Rip’s parents quickly called 9-1-1, and the firefighters from Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue in Washington prepared to help the family.
The firefighters arrived at the scene and saw that Rip was just calmly sitting in the sinkhole. This was somewhat a relief for the team because it gave them time to plan on how to help.
Their first instinct was to place a ladder around the sinkhole so they would have a steady platform to work on.
A Smooth Rescue
Then, they tried using webbing material to try and get him inside it. When they realized that didn’t work, they realized they needed to try something else.
They lowered one of the ladders into the sinkhole, and one of the firefighters went down to help. The entire place was a bit unstable, so they were careful with the extraction.
The firefighter took Rip into his arms and very carefully tried to bring him up the ladder. They were finally successful, and Rip was able to see his family again.
They were so happy to see that everything turned out great. Considering how this all started, it could have been a disaster, but fortune was on Rip’s side, and he was unharmed.
The firefighters noticed that he was shivering a bit from the shock after falling inside, but that quickly went away when he saw his family again.
The firefighters remained calm and did the whole thing smoothly. They did an outstanding job, and this once again shows how much can be accomplished when people work together.
