Family Adopts Dog, Then Returns Him Two Days Later, Claiming His Energy Was Too Much

Family Adopts Dog, Then Returns Him Two Days Later, Claiming His Energy Was Too Much

There are many factors to consider before adopting a dog: Is your home suitable? Is a dog you want to adopt pet-friendly? What are the dog’s daily needs, and does your schedule accommodate them?

Many adopters, however, don’t take these things into account and rush straight into the adoption process, which often leads to a premature, heartbreaking farewell.

They typically give up within the first week, stating they were unprepared or that they lacked the necessary time to adapt.

While it’s always better to return a dog to the original shelter than resort to abandonment, these actions leave emotional scars on dogs. Dixon, a one-year-old pup adopted and returned to a Florida shelter, knows this all too well.

Dixon Experienced This Heartbreak Once Before

No one was more excited than Dixon to meet his new family. Despite being a shelter dog, he was a good boi, well-mannered, and extremely friendly.

That’s why when his family arrived to pick him up at the Humane Society of Broward County, Florida, Dixon’s caregivers thought that was about it. Little did they know that he would return within only a couple of days…

Then, it happened. After only two days in the new home, his family decided to part ways with him, stating that his energy was just too much. According to his adopters, Dixon would jump to hug his new owners, and they were just afraid he might end up hurting someone.

This sudden change in Dixon’s life left another emotional scar on him.

Sadly, this wasn’t the first time he was adopted and returned. Before arriving at the Humane Society of Broward County, Dixon was picked up from another shelter by the family who returned him within twenty-four hours.

The reason they listed was even equally heartbreaking – the family claimed their home was just too small for this big boy.

Surrendered for the second time, Dixon retreated to the corner of his tiny kennel and lay in sorrow. He still hoped for a chance but was evidently distressed by the past events.

The Florida shelter posted a heartbreaking video of Dixon lying down by the kennel glass, giving his caregivers a look full of hope. In no time, the video spread all over the internet!

“Now, he watches everyone who passes by with those soulful puppy eyes, then lies down by the glass, hoping for a gentle touch. It’s breaking our hearts,” the Humane Society wrote in the description.

Ultimately, Dixon’s video touched the hearts of another Florida family – the one who decided to give him a third chance!

Here Comes The Perfect Family

Dixon’s potential adopters reached out to the shelter as soon as they saw his story. Being the owners of two dogs already, they wanted to provide him with the loving home he deserved.

They even drove four hours to the facility just to meet and greet with Dixon, and the rest, as they say, is history!

The very next day, Dixon was in a new home beginning a beautiful life journey.

“He’s found the perfect family who sees him for the lovable pup he is! They have the patience, understanding, and unconditional love to help him grow into the best boy,” the Florida shelter stated in an Instagram update.

Dixon has everything he has ever dreamed of and more! His family makes sure he has plenty of activities and the best time with his doggo siblings.

According to his owners, Dixon is already learning how to swim!

“We’re happy to share that he’s settling in beautifully—and even learning how to swim,” HSBC added.

One thing is for sure: from now on, there will be no more heartbreaks. Dixon is finally where he belongs.
