Gandalf was a devoted dog to his family for fourteen years. He gave them all his love and believed that they would stay by his side no matter what.
Unfortunately, things turned out to be different from what Gandalf the Schnauzer imagined.
He had severe dental issues and many cysts over his body, but other than that, he was a healthy dog. Since he needed more care than before, his family decided to part ways with him and leave him at a shelter.
The senior doggo felt confused when his owners surrendered him to Animal Haven in New York and disappeared from his life forever.
The Senior Dog Starts Looking For A Home
The wonderful staff at Animal Haven felt brokenhearted for him.
They worried that he would feel depressed if they placed him in a shelter kennel so they decided to keep him with their front desk team.
Although Gandalf appreciated the staff going out of their way to make him feel comfortable, he felt sad and wondered why his owners weren’t coming to pick him up.
The staff didn’t want Gandalf to spend his golden years behind kennel bars.
They posted his heartwrenching story on their TikTok account, informing their followers that the senior dog was looking for a new home.
Gandalf’s shelter friends held onto the hope that they would find him a loving family who would open their hearts to him when he most needed to feel safe and loved.
The TikTok community was devastated to see the sad-looking dog who couldn’t understand why the humans whom he adored left him for good.
In the caption, the New York shelter praised Gandalf for being good with “people, children, other dogs, and probably cats,” and added that he “would likely do well in almost any type of home.”
The video went viral and Gandalf won the hearts of many people who expressed their wish to give him a home.
Gandalf’s Happy Ending
A couple of days later, the shelter posted an update about the doggo and revealed that he already found his forever home.
A wonderful family fell in love with him the moment they saw him on TikTok and rushed to the shelter to adopt him.
“Gandalf’s new dad was literally waiting outside of Animal Haven before we opened the day after we posted his story,” the shelter wrote in the caption of the video.
Before the doggo started the happiest chapter in his life, the shelter made sure he resolved his dental issues.
Gandalf also had the cyst on his chest removed. His shelter friends were relieved to learn that the lump was just a lipoma.
The doggo was all smiles when his new family came to the shelter to pick him up.
He now lives his best life with his forever humans who promised to spoil him rotten.
