The heartbreak of losing a pet, even for a few hours, is unimaginable. So, when a New York owner realized his Golden Retriever was missing on a cold winter day, he immediately sprang into action.
He searched high and low after Carmal, the dog, had gotten out of her lead and vanished into the woods. It was already nighttime and eight new inches of snow had fallen, making it impossible for the owner to locate his furry pet.
To make things worse, Carmal wasn’t responding nor was she anywhere nearby for the owner to hear her barking. She was lost, leaving her entire family in uncertainty… until Chad Tavernia, an expert in finding lost pets, answered their plea!
She Was Stranded And Couldn’t Find A Way Out
Chad Tavernia is a hero who doesn’t wear a cape. After retiring as a State Police investigator in New York, he helped many families locate their lost pets through North County Drone Search & Recovery.
Chad uses Maverick’s (the drone) thermal camera to scan the area, which makes it easier to find lost animals in the woods, bushes, and inaccessible areas.
This time was no exception!
As soon as the family contacted him, Chad drove to the spot and deployed his drone into the sky.
After scanning the area, the drone finally revealed it: a dog with her lead entangled in bushes in the middle of the woods. Was it her?
“Upon switching to the zoom camera, he could see it was in fact Carmal, bedded near a tree and heavy brush and she had melted the snow around her to bare ground,” Chad stated in a Facebook post.
She was stranded in one place next to a tree, waiting for help. After confirming Carmal’s identity, Chad immediately alerted the owner about his finding. He even helped him navigate through the woods, straight to Carmal, who was more than happy to hear her owner’s voice.
It took the owner approximately twenty minutes to reach her, but when he did, Carmal couldn’t have been more excited.
“After approximately 20 minutes Maverick was able to assist her owner through the deep snow in the woods to where Carmal was freed from entanglement and returned home safely,” Chad wrote on Facebook.
Returned Home Safely
Carmal and her owner safely returned to their New York home. They were finally together after the night of pure fear and heartbreak.
Once they did, Carmal comfortably settled in and enjoyed her family’s presence as if her last night never happened. She was just so happy to finally be home, far away from the woods.
Chad, on the other hand, couldn’t have been happier to see Carmal finally reunite with her family.
This kind-hearted man will keep doing his noble work, hopefully helping other pet parents in need find their missing companions.
What started out as a small business turned into an amazing life-saving experience, and Chad will definitely keep up the good work.
“If it is within my control, I will always do my absolute best to respond as quickly as possible to find them,” he concluded.
