While a big-hearted woman named Tessa Lane was driving down a highway in Texas in the pouring rain, she spotted something strange by the side of the road.
Initially, Lane thought that it was a garbage bag, but once she approached it, she noticed that it moved.
She felt brokenhearted when she realized that it was a puppy who was cowering and trembling with fear as the cars drove past her.
After seeing how helpless the pup was, Lane’s motherly instinct kicked in. She pulled over and started walking toward the dog, determined to save her.
Saving The Life Of A Hopeless Pup
Lane was worried that something might happen to the dog as she lay on the roadside. She was determined to scoop her up and bring her to safety as soon as possible.
“The possibility of someone hydroplaning and losing control or of Lucky darting into the road was truly frightening, and the potential consequences weighed heavily on my mind. My thoughts were racing, but above all, my main focus was to get that sweet girl to safety,” Lane told The Dodo.
The kind-hearted woman began talking to the pup who looked at her with eyes filled with fear.
Lane started luring the dog, later named Lucky, toward her car and she started following her.
While Lane was trying to save the pup, a kind woman named Misty pulled over and offered her help.
Overwhelmed with fear, Lucky hid under Lane’s vehicle. Luckily, the two women convinced her to leave her hiding spot and they scooped her up.
They breathed a sigh of relief when they finally had Lucky in their arms. Lane carried her to the car and drove her home.
Finding Happiness She Deserved
After moving in with her rescuer, Lucky tried to avoid interacting with her because she was still terrified and distrustful.
Lane thought that Lucky would need some time to decompress and start trusting her.
However, the pup surprised her when she began eating from her hand later that day. It was clear that Lucky started realizing that Lane only wanted to help her.
A kind woman and a local groomer gave Lucky a soothing bath and haircut and the pup loved it.
As Lane showered her with attention and encouragement, the pup began feeling a bit more relaxed but she still needed time to feel safe with her rescuer.
“It’s clear that earning her trust will take time, but I’m confident she will eventually understand that she is safe with us and that we would never hurt her,” Lane said.
Lucky got along well with Lane’s dog, Murphy. She loved being around him.
As the two spent time together, Lucky started letting go of her fear and her eyes got brighter with every passing day. She started feeling safe.
The doggo formed a strong bond with Lane. She loved her and was extremely grateful for her help and affection.
It didn’t take long for Lane to realize that Lucky meant a lot to her and that she couldn’t part ways with her. She decided to adopt her and give her all her love.
Thanks to Lane’s kindness and willingness to help a pup in need, Lucky’s life has been saved and she received a second shot at happiness.
