What is the one thing that always fascinates me about dogs? It’s just how simple they are. They don’t require much to be happy.
Having a warm home, food, somebody they love, and some entertainment is everything you need to make a dog’s life fulfilling.
In an ideal world, and that would be how every dog should live their life, but things are different in reality. Sometimes, they get hurt by other dogs or people.
Most don’t even have a place to call home, and it’s really depressing. Hobbs’ story started out in a similar manner.
The poor pup was dumped on the street by his former owner and left to survive on his own. He would struggle a lot before somebody finally realized what he was going through and decided to help.
Hobbs’ Lucky Break
When a rescuer from Animal Care Centers of New York was first notified about Hobbs, he did not waste a moment.
In a rush, the rescuer went to save the poor pup from the streets and give him a new chance. After they were able to secure him, they took him back to the shelter.
After spending some time with them, they decided to transfer him over to Tails of Love rescue. He was doing okay and the rescuers were trying to find a home for him.
It wasn’t going to be easy, as he was a senior dog who had struggled with many different health issues.
Luckily for him, one day, a stranger walked in the shelter in New York and saw Hobbs. Her name was Catherine and she immediately fell in love with him.
Even though he was very timid, she wanted to give him a new chance to recover and learn how to love again.
She took him in and quickly noticed that it was going to take a while before he was able to fully relax in her presence.
Hobbs was just really scared. Catherine told GeoBeats Animals: “We theorized that he was probably abused. He was pretty unsocialized, so I think maybe he just was with a family that didn’t really care for him, or in a bad situation with too many other dogs mistreating him.”
He Is Changing Every Day
Even though this pooch was going to be a big challenge for her, she decided to give it a shot. Hobbs would sometimes bark and growl at her, but she was always prepared for it.
She slowly started petting him to make sure he wouldn’t get scared and start biting her. At this moment, Catherine realized that he had finally let his guard down.
Hobbs realized that this kind woman was just trying to help him out in any way she could, and he fell in love with her.
Catherine noticed that he only really liked her and nobody else. Even so, she tried her best to help him be more calm around other people and dogs.
She would take him on walks often, even though it was a bit difficult for him. He has luxating patellas, bad knees, and arthritis, so it’s not easy for him to walk anywhere.
Anytime Catherine felt that Hobbs was getting tired, they would stop and rest. When walking is really difficult, she has another solution.
She said: “He’s a pretty hobbling old guy. I usually take him in a stroller, or carry him in a baby wrap.”
Hobbs Is Living His Best Life
When she can’t be around him for a short period of time, she usually lets her cats watch him, and it goes really well.
Soon though, Catherine would learn that there was a dog at another shelter who was remarkably similar to Hobbs, so she decided to adopt him as well, so he would have another friend.
Surprisingly, Hobbs and his new sibling, Little Nacho Supreme, get along really well, and they are both senior dogs, so you can imagine that they just love relaxing and napping together.
It’s so amazing to see that after going through so many hardships, Hobbs gets to finally relax and enjoy his senior years with a special person and a lot of good siblings.
Catherine ends by saying: “Every day Hobbs, I see his face, and it just gives me so much happiness. To see how loved he is and how content, I am so happy that I adopted him and that he came into my life.”
