This Dog Was Sad After Realizing She Was Going Back To The Shelter After Her Day Trip

Although it gives them food, water, a temporary roof over their heads, and hope for a forever home, a shelter is not an ideal place for dogs.

There is too much noise, numerous people who just come and go, and shelter employees who cannot dedicate themselves to them as much as a loving owner could.

That’s why it is a true blessing for a dog to have a person who, at least from time to time, can give him the love and attention that he misses so much.

How much it really means to them is best shown by the reaction of one furry fellow when she realized that she was returning to her shelter in Richmond, Virginia, from a day trip.

Heartbreaking Shift

Meghin, from Richmond, Virginia, is a huge dog lover and has been demonstrating her love for a long time by caring for canines from the Richmond Animal Care & Control (RACC) shelter.

One of them is a four-year-old dog named Grab N Go, or as she likes to call her, Gigi. This big-hearted woman takes Gigi out of the shelter once a week and they always have the time of their lives.

It was the same this time when this duo enjoyed themselves perhaps more than ever. “We went to Belle Isle,” Meghin told Newsweek. “We walked through the trails and I let her play in the river.”

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end quickly, and this time, Gigi had a truly hard time dealing with it. Meghin managed to capture the heartbreaking shift in her mood and shared the video with her TikTok followers via her account, @ex_barista.

Saddest part about only taking gigi out of the shelter for a few hours is returning her to the shelter. Gigi (Grab N Go) is waiting for her forever person at RACC, ✨her adoption link is in my bio✨ I’m her virtual foster. I take her on an outing once a week and post about her in hopes to find her a home. @Richmond Animal Care & Control #shelterdog #shelterpetsoftiktok #shelterdogsoftiktok #pitbull #dogadoption

“Saddest part about only taking gigi out of the shelter for a few hours is returning her to the shelter,” she wrote in the video caption.

Many people who watched this video shared this opinion with her.

“She looks so sad too poor baby 😭😭😭🥺🥺🥺,” one user wrote, while the other added: “😭she knows she’s going back🥺.”

And the third quipped: “I would not be able to take a dog out only to return..can’t imagine the disappointment and confusion they feel. 😭😭.”

She Needs A Forever Home!

As hard as it was for this woman to see Gigi’s sad face, it was still a relief to see her smile back when her shelter caretakers welcomed her with open arms once they returned.

This was the best proof that these good people did everything in their power to ensure that Gigi didn’t miss anything and that she was happy for as long as possible in her kennel.

However, as good as it sounds, Gigi was still not completely happy, and this was confirmed by Haley, a member of staff at RACC.

“This lovely lady is struggling to settle down in the shelter environment, so she’s looking for a patient and loving family to help her feel secure,” she said.

Although they believe that it may not be time for that yet, Gigi could live with another furry fellow in the near future.

Yet, what is certain is that this dog will always make her new family happy with her smile and that they will certainly not have to look at the sad face that Meghin witnessed that day.
