Although shelters are not meant to be permanent homes for any dog, sadly, some canines end up spending a lifetime behind kennel bars, hoping that potential adopters will finally choose them.
Lucia is one of the shelter dogs who waited too long for someone to give her a chance to be happy. She spent eleven years watching other shelter dogs find happiness in the arms of their new parents while she continued waiting.
Many shelter dogs would get depressed and lose hope, but not Lucia. She didn’t let her spirit wither because she truly believed that her time would come.
Lucia’s Life In The Shelter
Lucia was a one-year-old when she was admitted to Villalobos Rescue Center in Louisiana.
The shelter staff received her with open arms and showered her with love.
They suspected that her earlier life was difficult. They wished to help her leave her past behind and make her feel loved.
Liz Scollo, a dog trainer who worked at the same shelter, had the chance to meet Lucia.
She didn’t understand why nobody adopted the lovely pup.
The shelter tried to find her a loving home. They advertised her and showed her in meets and greets, but unfortunately, Lucia didn’t get chosen.
Scollo assumed that the fact that Lucia didn’t get along with other canines could have been the reason why potential adopters kept ignoring her.
However, when Lucia least expected it, her greatest wish of having a home of her own came true.
Scollo fell in love with her and decided to adopt her.
The pup was over the moon when she realized that she was leaving the shelter.
She said goodbye to the loving shelter staff who were her family for so many years.
Lucia Finds True Happiness
Once she moved in with Scollo, Lucia couldn’t contain her happiness.
She began exploring her new home with the biggest smile on her face. She kept wagging her tail and sniffing everything as she climbed up on couches.
After spending eleven years at the shelter, Lucia discovered a whole new world.
The doggo lives her best life with her mom in New York.
Although she is twelve and a half years old, the doggo is so energetic that she seems like a puppy.
Lucia enjoys running in the yard and celebrating her freedom.
She is extremely affectionate and she loves cuddling with her favorite human in bed.
Scollo hopes that Lucia’s story will inspire more people to adopt senior dogs and give them the happiness they deserve.
Thank you to Scollo for making Lucia’s dream come true and for making her the happiest dog on the planet.
